Please make your way to the Medical Center in Fira to embark on your Caldera cruise. An English-speaking escort will join you on the boat to provide background on the geological pressures that have molded Santorini over the years.
Take an air-conditioned bus to the port from where you will board your wooden sailing ship, where you set sail for the huge crater, or caldera, left by a massive volcanic eruption on the island of Santorini.
More recent volcanic activity has caused two new islands to surge up around the caldera.
Sail to the island where Santorini’s still-active volcano has laid dormant for almost six decades. Disembark from the boat and stand on the hot, rugged rim of the volcano while wisps of sulphurous smoke snake through the cracks in the rock.
Next, make your way to the nearby volcanic hot springs, where you can enjoy a swim in the purifying waters.
Back on board, an effortless sea breeze brings an easy smile to your face as you scan breathtaking views of Thira, with its brown cliffs, pastel houses, and blue-domed churches.
There is no hotel drop-off. You’ll be returned to the Medical Center in Fira at the tour’s end.
