Overview

Let the rich history of Greece captivate you on this tour that takes you back 5000 years into myths and legends and secrets of Europe’s oldest civilization, the Minoans. See the most famous and popular of all attractions in Crete, the Palace of Knossos. The Minoan Palace of Knossos is the largest Bronze Age archaeological site on Crete and was probably the ceremonial and political center of the Minoan civilization and culture.

Take some time off for shopping at the colorful and goods-laden markets in Heraklion, Crete’s bustling capital.

Itinerary

The tour begins from the Medical Centre Hersonissos. Accompanied by an English-speaking guide, set out in an air-conditioned coach for a sightseeing tour of Minoan landmarks and Heraklion.

The highlights of your tour include:

The Palace of Knossos: The exquisite Palace of Knossos, covering an area of 20,000 sq metres, is one of the world's greatest sightseeing experiences. It consists of four wings, arranged around a rectangular central court. The palace originally had many storeys, was built of ashlar blocks and had walls decorated with splendid frescoes. It is the most famous of the palaces of the Minoan civilization.

Other areas on the site include the Minoan Houses, the Little Palace, the Royal Villa, the villa Dionysos with famous Roman mosaics, the south Royal Temple Tomb and the Caravanserai.

Afterwards, explore Crete’s bustling capital, Heraklion, and take some time off for shopping. Heraklion is the commercial centre of the island of Crete, and therefore has a heavy concentration of shops. Top designer labels are available at reasonable prices on Daedalou Street as is some fine jewellery. Other good buys are antiques, leather goods, folk art, olive oil (Crete's is rated as the best in the world) and interesting cheeses like xynotyro, kefalotyri and graviera. Enjoy browsing the market on 1866 Street.

The tour returns to the starting point.
