The tour begins from Mainroad Hotel Minoa Palace. Accompanied by an English-speaking guide, set out in an air-conditioned vehicle for a hiking tour to the Samaria Gorge. The gorge of Samaria is situated in the National park of Samaria, in the White Mountains in West Crete.
Arrive at the head of the gorge called Xyloskalo after about an hour’s drive.
Begin your hike along the 16 kilometre-long Samaria Gorge, beginning at an altitude of 1250m and taking you all the way down to the shores of the Libyan sea in Agia Roumeli. The trek takes between 5-6 hours.
Trek through the Iron Curtains with sides rising sheer up to 100 feet.
There are facilities for drinking water all along the gorge and you can stop for a break to refill your bottles.
At the end of the gorge is Agia Roumeli, a village with restaurants and accommodation, and boats to Chora Sfakion. Enjoy a short cruise around the southern coastline to the pretty costal village of Chora Sfakion where your coach will be waiting to take you back to Chania.
The tour returns to the starting point.
