Overview

Be treated to an unforgettable experience on this tour that showcases Quito’s rich colonial legacy and one of its primary attractions – the Equator that passes right through it.

Steeped in history, Ecuador’s capital Quito is one of South America’s best preserved colonial cities. In fact, it was due to its rich cultural heritage that the historical centre in the old city was declared the first World Heritage Cultural Site by UNESCO in 1978. Visit the Independence Square, the Archbishop’s Palace, the renowned Metropolitan Cathedral and other samples of colonial art and architecture.

Mark the zero latitude at the La Mitad Del Mundo (Middle of the World), just a few kilometres outside of Quito. Straddle the northern and southern hemispheres by standing on the famous red line that marks the Equator in Quito. Let some equator-style fun take over as you attempt to balance a raw egg on the head of a nail at the very centre of the earth (a feat actually possible only here!)

For a glimpse of Quito’s history and a chance to stand in the very middle of the earth, few tours would be as irresistible.

Itinerary

You will be picked up from your hotel (or closest pick-up point) and taken in a private air-conditioned vehicle for a guided city sightseeing tour of Quito, followed by a trip to the Equator.

A wonderful tour through the streets and main squares of Quito Historic Centre, first city in the world to be declared by the UNESCO as “World Cultural Heritage” in recognition for its architectonic and artistic value.

Narrow and sometimes steep streets surrounded of a great exhibition of classic architecture, colonial style houses, gracious flowered balconies, charming squares and more than 50 monumental churches, convents, monasteries, cloisters and historic monuments get together at the best preserve Historical centre of Latin America to delight our passengers.

A visit to the Church and Convent of Santo Domingo is part of this spectacular visit; this convent has the best exhibition of architectural and religious art in the colonial city. In approximately two hours, the passenger will have the opportunity to be delighted by the delicate and unusual beauty of this colonial Convent. Treasures as the Chapels of El Rosario and Pompeya whose walls and columns are decorated in gold with an original blend of vegetable and anthropomorphic figures are a vivid example of the world famous Quito School of Art.

The Convent of Santo Domingo displays colossal doors and ceilings covered with oil paintings and gold leaf; it takes us back in time and dazzled us with its supreme beauty.

In the afternoon, a short trip to the north of the city of Quito will lead us to our planet's Latitude 0´0´0´´where the Intiñan museum known too as “The trek of Sun” will guide us through the wonderful world of the Andean Cosmo-vision, culture and traditions.

Mixed with didactic games where the physic laws show us the unique events that happen at the middle of the world, this museum expose us the influence of this imaginary line in agriculture and practice of ritualistic events pointing at the sun as the principal divinity. This is the place where you can stand with one foot on the northern hemisphere and the other one on the southern hemisphere…a unique experience.

At the end of the tour, you will be dropped back at your hotel (closest drop-off point) in Quito.
