An experience of complete euphoria in the hills, this hiking experience takes you to some spectacular glaciers, wooded valleys and Yerba Loca stream. Trail through the Yerba Loca National Park, an unspoilt sanctuary of diverse flora and colorful birdlife.
As you trek along its gently contouring trail, a magnificent vista of the Andes will open up before you. Pause for a picnic meal along the meandering stream, and observe silently a variety of birds by the water.
The climb to the Chorrillos del Plomo will leave you breathless. From here the serene Paloma Glacier is just a hike away. With the temperature reducing notch by notch, the spectacular snow-covered peak of Mount Altar will appear closer to you. Being the perfect location, you can also practice trail and river-crossing techniques under the guidance of your trained guide.
Departing from Santiago, we head towards the Yerba Loca National Park, located at curve 15 on the road to Farellones. An approximate 4-hour trek will lead us up a gentle trail to incomparable views of the Andes Mountains. We enjoy a picnic lunch at the river’s edge where condors and eagles often fly. We continue our trek to the sector of Chorrillos del Plomo to set up camp. Enjoy an evening in the majestic surroundings of the Andes.
After an energizing breakfast, we begin our hike towards the Paloma Glacier. Notice the snowy peak of Mt. Altar as we approach the frozen field of ice. Beware of unpredictable releases of ice blocks from the glacier that tend to occur. We may also have the opportunity to practice trail and river-crossing techniques led by our mountain guide. After a relaxing picnic lunch, we return to the park headquarters to transfer back to Santiago.

It is worth bringing a torch with you. Carry your camera and a bottle of drinking water. Wear your hiking shoes and bring along sun block lotion. Don't pick up flowers or plants, because these are an essential part of the ecological system. If possible, walk along the paths to prevent damage to the vegetation. Take a first aid kit with you. Wear warm clothing, and snow clothing in winter.
