  • Overview & Itinerary

    Overview

The HBO hit-series Game of Thrones burst into the scene in 2010 and has since grown a devoted fan base. Much of the filming takes place in a studio in Belfast, with the beautiful Northern Irish landscape providing a stunning backdrop to the storyline in many episodes, especially the Causeway Coastal Route with its steep cliffs and rugged shoreline. Step into the scenes you recognize from the show and relive your favourite moments.

Travel with the same company as the cast and crew of Game of Thrones. Our local partner has worked on all 4 seasons of the show, providing transport to and from all filming locations.

See Ballycastle, the native home of Lady Catelyn Stark, the cave at Cushendun, where Melisandre gave birth to the shadow baby, Pyke Harbour where multiple scenes take place and much more.

You will also see the spectacular Giant’s Causeway, one of the greatest natural wonders in the UK. The site is not directly linked to the series but is a must-see spot whilst in Belfast.

    Itinerary

Meet your guide at the local tour operator’s office at the Belfast International Youth Hostel at 22-32 Donegall Road, Belfast, Antrim BT12 5JN. Additionally, you can make your way to the Europa Hotel on Great Victoria Street, on the corner of Glengall Street.

Your thrilling Game of Thrones tour will start with a drive along the beautiful Causeway Coastal Route to the small town of Ballycastle. Ballycastle was featured as the home of Lady Catelyn Stark and Varys. The first stop of the day is at Cushendun, where you’ll visit the cave where Melisandre gave birth to the shadow baby.

Next up is The King’s Road, known locally as The Dark Hedges, a beautiful avenue of beech trees planted by the Stuart family in the 18th century and featured in the first episode of season two.

Next, you will travel to Ballintoy and Pyke Harbour. This stunning seaside location has been used for exterior shots and as the Iron Islands.

At lunchtime, you’ll stop at the cosy Fullerton Arms in Ballintoy, a popular spot amongst Game of Thrones fans as it has been known to host some of the cast members! Enjoy a scrumptious lunch (payable direct), and you might even hear a story or two from the staff about bumping into some of the series’ stars.

After your lunch, move on to Larrybane, where Renly swears to Lady Stark that he will avenge Ned’s death, but meets his end at the hands of the shadow baby that came to being in those caves you visited in Cushendun.

The last stop of the day is at Giant’s Causeway, an area of about 40,000 interlocking basalt columns; the result of an ancient volcanic eruption. Although the site has no direct connection with Game of Thrones, it is a must-see spot in Northern Ireland.

At the end of the tour you will be transported back to the starting point.
