Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse is located 13kms (7.8 miles) from Dunsborough or approximately 10-15 minutes drive. Also approximately 30 minutes drive from Busselton and Margaret River Town
    Please report at the meeting point 15 minutes before the start time. This is mandatory to allow time for pre-departure briefing.

Inevitably situated in dangerous places, lighthouses always have interesting tales to tell. Visit Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse on its rocky promontory. Climb the tower with your friendly guide and see spectacular panoramas of Geographe Bay, the Indian Ocean and Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park.

Hear tales of shipwrecks and ghostly appearances. Learn about the lonely life of the lighthouse keepers and the drama of the 1907 explosion. Browse the maritime museum and see evocative images of the past. Walk the nature trails and enjoy the rich wildlife.

In season (August to December) you can watch migrating whales from a special platform – an experience not to be missed!

Itinerary

For stunning views and gripping stories don’t miss the Margaret River – Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse Guided Tour. There is no hotel pick-up for this experience. Please make your own way to Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse and check in at the Ticket Office upon arrival. The Lighthouse is approximately 10- 15 minutes drive from Dunsborough or 30 minutes drive from Busselton and Margaret River Town.

From Dunsborough, a 13 km (7.8 miles) scenic drive brings you to the Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse and Maritime Museum. Activated in 1904 and situated on a rugged promontory, the 20 meter tall lighthouse is surrounded by a rich array of interesting flora and fauna. A climb to the top offers breath-taking 360 degree views across the Indian Ocean, Cape Naturaliste, Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park and the beautiful Geographe Bay.

A friendly tour guide will show you the lighthouse and tell you some of the fascinating stories surrounding it. Learn about the shipwrecks on this dangerous coastline, the difficulties of constructing a lighthouse in such a remote place, the explosion in 1907, the jar of valuable mercury that went missing and the lonely lives of the lighthouse keepers. You’ll also hear some spine-chilling ghost stories!

The 30-minute walking tour is in English, but translations of the tour information into most European languages are available on site. The fascinating maritime museum provides stories and pictures of the past; and also offers refreshments and souvenirs (payable direct).

Numerous walking trails lead from the Lighthouse around the stunning bays and beaches of the Cape, providing amazing views over the ocean and of the local seasonal wildflowers. A platform and shelter provides magnificent whale watching during the annual migratory periods, from August to December.

Your tour ends at the lighthouse and you need to make your own arrangements for returning to Margaret River township.
