Overview

Explore the marine extravaganza of The Great Barrier Reef on this live-aboard dive trip especially for divers and snorkellers. From four exclusive dive sites take in a stunning ecosystem that supports the greatest concentration of life on this planet including 1500 species of fish, 350 different corals, 4,000 species of molluscs and 10,000 species of sponges.

The Great Barrier Reef is generally not a deep dive destination. You will be diving to an average depth range of 10 - 25 meters (30-80 feet). As coral relies on sunlight for growth, some of the best snorkeling and diving can be done in shallow areas around the reef top. Water temperatures range from 22° to 28° Celsius (75° - 85° F) allowing comfortable diving all year round. This cruise gives you the opportunity to dive into the clear blue waters 11 times, including twice at night!

Itinerary

You will be picked up from your hotel in Cairns or Northern Beaches and will travel in an air-conditioned coach to the local activity operators store from where you will pick up your dive equipment. You will then be taken to Marlin Jetty at Cairns to board the cruise ship. The ship features 14 twin share and 2 double cabins with private amenities for every 2 cabins. The ship is centrally air-conditioned, light and airy. There are 2 large decks, one for gear and one strictly for sun tanning and relaxing. There is a multi-cuisine restaurant onboard.

This tour will take you to dive sites off Cairns such as Flynn Reef, Milln Reef, Thetford Reef and Pellowe Reef which are famous for the abundance and variety of marine life.

As the ship pulls out of Marlin Jetty, you will be served a light breakfast onboard. Settle into your accommodation and stroll on the ship enjoying the scenic beauty and the cool breeze.

You will then get ready for your first dive. There will be an instructor to help you should you need assistance. Explore the fascinating underwater world of the Great Barrier Reef.

Return to the ship for lunch. You will be served soup, fresh salad, cold meat and bread rolls.

Your ship would have traveled by now to another interesting dive site. You will then enter the water again and after some time, again at another site.

Return to the ship in the evening and enjoy a sumptuous dinner.

Then get ready for perhaps the most exciting dive of the day: the night dive. This night dive is most likely to take place in the same spot as the afternoon dive so that you are familiar with the region. You will be provided torches and all other equipment required for a night dive. Keep an eye out for sleeping turtles, crustaceans and the occasional reef shark!

Return to the ship for dessert and to spend the night.

Enjoy an early morning dive. Look out for splendid gorgonian fans, giant clams and bump-headed parrotfish.

Return to the ship for breakfast. Enjoy cereal, fresh fruit, bacon and eggs as well as toast and spreads.

By now your vessel would have moved on to another spot and you will enjoy one more dive.

Return to the ship for a lunch of hot pasta and a variety of salads.

Enjoy more diving and snorkeling and then after dinner, enjoy your second night dive.

Return to the ship for dessert and to spend the night.

Enjoy an early morning dive before returning to the ship for breakfast which includes fresh fruit salad, cereals and toast.

After breakfast, the ship will have moved to the last diving site and you will enjoy another dive/snorkeling experience.

You will then return to the ship and enjoy freshly-made sandwiches which are served on board the vessel as it makes its way back to Cairns.

If you were a non-certified diver at the beginning of this tour, after all these training dives you will be given a certificate. You will disembark at Marlin Jetty and travel in an air-conditioned vehicle back to your hotel where the tour ends.
