Activity Overview

Broome is the considered the gateway to the Kimberley Region in Western Australia. It is a major ‘pearling’ town where many farmers produce cultured pearls.

The Broome Historical Society Museum is a good place to learn about Broome’s ‘pearling’ past, Aboriginal roots and its ‘one day war’. This tour will also take you to Sun Pictures, the world’s oldest operating open-air picture garden.

The highlight of this tour is a visit to Cable Beach, a long stretch with beautiful white sand and crystal clear turquoise water. It’s a great place to swim, watch a beautiful sunset or enjoy a camel ride along the shores.

Itinerary

You will be picked up from your hotel and will travel in an air-conditioned coach accompanied by a guide to Broome for a sightseeing tour. On this tour, you will also have the option of enjoying a camel ride on Cable Beach.

As you listen to commentary about Broome’s history, your coach will stop at Chinatown where you will have the opportunity to enter a pearl shop to see Broome’s famous pearls.

Continue to the famous Sun Pictures, the world’s oldest operating open-air movie theatre where you can enjoy a historical sound show which will last approximately 10 minutes. After the show, you will travel through Old Broome and you can see typical Broome architecture along the way. See the aqua waters of Roebuck Bay and appreciate Town Beach which is part of the shoreline. Listen to your guide tell you more about Broome’s ‘One Day War’ as the vehicle traverses through the city. You will then stop at Matso’s Broome Brewery famous for hand made ales and ginger beer where you may have the opportunity to samples some beer. Or you may choose to visit one of the local art and craft galleries nearby and pick up souvenirs.

You will then visit the Japanese Cemetery which is where more than 900 Japanese divers who lost their lives working in the pearling industry lie buried. Continue to the famous Broome Port which is where many pearling vessels anchor today.

Your coach will then travel by Riddell Beach and the Broome Race Course before stopping at Gantheaume Point which is famous for the footprints of dinosaurs. Enjoy an easy-paced walk here and listen to your guide tell you the story of Anastasia’s Pool.

You will then board the coach and travel to Cable Beach (subject to beach conditions) to view a spectacular sunset. Don’t forget to take pictures here. You also have the option of enjoying a camel ride or you may enjoy a stroll or swim as you watch the sun disappear into the horizon.

After this tour you will be dropped back at your hotel where the tour ends.
