Dive into the turbulent war-ridden history of Rotterdam with this one-of-a-kind running tour covering the city’s involvement during World War II. Exploring both the traditional and contemporary parts of the city, it's a fantastic way to explore Rotterdam all while maintaining your fitness regime.
With a trail that’s approximately 7km long, the tour takes you through the major sightseeing points in the city that will help you gain a better understanding of the Dutch’s involvement in World War II and the impact of it on the city. You’ll get to see the 'brandgrens' (fire- line) which marks the part of Rotterdam that was completely destroyed during the bombing on May 14, 1940, while listening to the spine-chilling tales of heroism and destruction.
But hey, that’s not all! The tour is designed in a way to relieve Rotterdam’s myriad of emotions and not just go out for some regular sightseeing. An ambitious reconstruction project has made the city what it is today, considering how it was completely in ruins after the World War. Our knowledgeable and passionate guide will regale you with the constant debate of whether the world has lost Rotterdam’s vivacious city centre of the 1930s or if the city has really rediscovered its heart.
We bet you want to get your hands on the entire story! Come, join us for a unique experience of running a marathon through Rotterdam all while discovering its tragic history!
