To join the Heidelberg & Frankfurt City Day Tour you should make your way to the tour office at Wiesenhüttenstr. 39, 60329 Frankfurt. (Hotel pick up service is available for Frankfurt Hotels - payable direct at approx euro 5.00 per person.) On this combo tour you spend about 5 ½ hours exploring Heidelberg and then enjoy two hours sightseeing in Frankfurt.

The day starts with a visit to the town of Heidelberg, which lies on the River Neckar some 80 km (48 miles) south of Frankfurt.

You’ll visit Heidelberg’s star attraction – the magnificent Schloss (Castle). Perched 300 feet above the town, the Castle is a mix of styles from Gothic to Renaissance and consists of several buildings around an inner courtyard.

You’ll also see the amazing Heidelberg Tun – the world’s largest wine barrel – constructed in 1751 by Prince Elector Karl Theodor. It stands 7 meters high, is 8 ½ meters wide, holds 220,000 liters (58,124 gallons) of wine, and has a dance floor on top.

Your guide will lead you around the medieval town center to view more examples of Gothic and Renaissance architecture such as the old Bridge, Church of the Holy Spirit, the Karl’s Gate, House of the Knights and Heidelberg University.

A small snack is included in your tour price and you can enjoy this at a suitable point during the excursion.

On returning to Frankfurt you will travel by open-top bus to see the highlights of the old and new parts of town. Now an important European banking center, Frankfurt is the former coronation city of the German emperors.

Close to the medieval Römer (the old City Hall) leave the bus for a stroll around the old part of the city, accompanied by your guide. Built in the 15th century, the Römer is Frankfurt's most important historic building, taking its name from the Roman settlements that once stood there.

You will see the neo-Gothic Frankfurt Cathedral, reconstructed after a fire in 1867, and St. Paul’s Church, which began life in 1789 as a Protestant church and later became the seat of the Frankfurt Parliament..

Hopping back on the bus, continue to Old Sachsenhausen, where you have a stop to explore this vibrant district, famous for its cider houses, bars and restaurants.

Back on board, you’ll head for Frankfurt's modern European banking center with its glossy skyscrapers. On the way you'll pass Goethe House, the birthplace of Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe, the 18th-century poet, and the International Exhibition Grounds. Other famous landmarks you see before the end of the tour include the baroque Old Hauptwache building, the Zeil shopping center, the old city walls, and one of Europe’s largest rail stations.

Your tour ends back at the starting point at Wiesenhüttenstr. 39. Hotel drop-off can be arranged for an extra charge (approx euro 5.00 per person).
