Overview

There are new sights and wonders around every corner on this delightful Tenerife Island Tour.

Marvel at the towering cliffs of Los Gigantes and picture-perfect panoramas from Santiago del Teide. On clear days you’ll also catch magnificent views of Mount Teide’s volcanic cone.

Travel through farmland and forests getting an idea of the island’s extraordinary diversity. See pretty old towns and the ancient Dragon Tree – one of the chief botanical treasures of the Canaries. Soaring to 17 meters (approx 55 feet) the extraordinary tree is wreathed in legend and said to be 1000 years old.

There is no better way to explore lovely Tenerife than this panoramic tour. It also includes the majestic Basilica of Candelaria and, depending on your language preference, a visit to either the museum of Casa Abaco or the theme park of Pueblo Chico.

Itinerary

The Tenerife Island Tour is a delightful way to explore this beautiful Canary island.

At the start of the day you will be picked up from your hotel in a comfortable coach and will head to the north-eastern part of the island.

The first stop will be made at Los Gigantes viewpoint, where you can admire the beauty of these magnificent cliffs.

Later, you will ascend to Santiago del Teide, arriving at the summit of Erjos at about 3000 feet. From this point you can see the contrasts in climate and vegetation between the north and south of the island. While the north is more humid, the south is sunnier and drier. Weather permitting, you’ll also enjoy magnificent views out over the Mount Teide, the world’s third highest volcano.

The route then descends through mountain scenery and forests to El Tanque which offers some of the best views of Tenerife’s stunning coastline. You will see Garachico, a picturesque town that was once an important port exporting Malmsey wine and other local produce. Your guide will point out the Roque de Garachico, a rock formation of great scientific interest.

After this, you will head to Icod de los Vinos where you will see the world’s largest and most famous Dragon Tree (Dracaena draco) and learn the legends surrounding it. Wild Dragon Trees are found only in the Canary Islands, Cape Verde, Madeira and Morocco and were once held to be sacred. Standing 17 metres high, the tree at Icod de los Vinos is believed to be around 1000 years old.

The tour continues to La Orotava where you can visit the Old Town and La Casa de Los Balcones, with all types of handicrafts.

Next you will visit either the museum of Casa Abaco (for German-speaking groups) or the theme park of Pueblo Chico for (French-speaking groups).

Casa Abaca is an 18th century mansion, restored and fitted out as a house-museum during the day and a bar-cocktail lounge at night. Enjoy wandering around this fine example of Canary Island architecture and style.

Pueblo Chico is a popular theme park that reproduces typical Canary Islands landscapes and buildings at a scale of 1:25. It’s a way of viewing all the diversity of the islands at one go.

Afterwards, you will continue to Puerto de La Cruz, where you will have some time for lunch (payable direct) and to take a stroll through the old town center, Lago Martianez.

On the way back to the south you will visit the Basilica of Candelaria, constructed on a former hermitage and a popular pilgrimage destination. View the fantastic Plaza with the Guanche king and queen statues and the impressive church that houses the Virgin Candelaria, the Patron saint of the Canary Islands.

At the end of the tour, you will be dropped back at your hotel.
