Your full-day Palma De Mallorca Sightseeing Tour takes you to the delightful capital of the Balearic Islands. There are three options for the tour, depending on the point at which you are picked up. You can choose to be picked up from your hotel in from East Mallorca or from North Mallorca. (For a breakdown of which resort falls into which region see please note section.)
Traveling in a comfortable, air-conditioned bus, you will enjoy a scenic drive along Mallorca’s beautiful coastline. Admire the beaches and Palma’s pretty fishing port on your way to look at Bellver Castle. This Gothic-style fortress was built in the 14th century and is one of the few circular castles in Europe. It was used by the Mallorcan Kings as a summer home, and later became a political prison. (This tour does not enter the Castle.)
You will then have 2 hours free time in Palma for shopping and to enjoy lunch (payable direct). There is plenty to see. Stroll around the Plaza Mayor (the main square) and explore the winding streets of the medieval quarter. Visit the Arab Baths, the only Moorish building in the city that remains almost intact. Wander around the modern part of Palma with its stylish designer shops, or visit the Fundación Juan March to browse the latest exhibitions of Spanish art.
In the afternoon, visit the Cathedral of Santa Maria (commonly known as La Seu). Situated in the old part of town, this magnificent Gothic cathedral lies atop a former Roman city and is built on the site of a former Moorish mosque.
The massive Cathedral has space for 18,000 people and boasts the largest Gothic rose window in the world. The building also has glorious stonework, ornate vaulted interiors and a rare Gothic almshouse. Make sure you check out the magnificent gargoyles. The celebrated architect Antoni Gaudí was involved in restoration of the La Seu in the early 1900s.
You will also stop to look at the 13th-century Royal Palace of the Almudaina, originally a Moorish fortress. The palace is currently used by His Majesty the King of Spain as a residence for official summer ceremonies. (This tour does not enter the building.)
You will spend around 6-7 hours in Palma altogether. At the end of the day, you will be dropped back at your hotel or pick-up point in East or North Mallorca.
