Open Road:  A Classic Car Roadtrip To Las Vegas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>As a kid growing up in Orange County, I made my fair share of family roadtrips to <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.isango.com\/las-vegas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Las Vegas<\/a><\/span>.\u00a0 But, it wasn\u2019t until I turned 21 years of age that I finally got behind the wheel for the long haul.\u00a0 I leveraged my way into borrowing my sister\u2019s \u201cbaby\u201d, a cherry red 1966 Mustang Fastback, and my friends and I hit the road.\u00a0 I already knew the vast stretch of nothingness that lay before us was punctuated with little oases in the form of Podunk towns.\u00a0 But, as the driver, this trip represented a rite of passage for me, which breathed freshness into the roadtrip experience.\u00a0 Or, maybe that freshness stemmed from the car itself.\u00a0 With no A\/C and only an FM radio to entertain us, we cruised with the windows down, looking forward to each and every one of these pit stops that dot the road to Vegas:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"csRow\">\n<div class=\"csColumn\" style=\"margin: 0px; padding: 0px; float: left; width: 52.1%;\" data-csstartpoint=\"0\" data-csendpoint=\"500.5\" data-cswidth=\"52.1%\" data-csid=\"902856a1-c93b-af56-8c29-71ea5aa6e460\">\n<p><strong>Get your kicks: A Route 66 Roadtrip<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For decades, Route 66 has sparked the imagination of millions of would-be roadtrippers.\u00a0 The name alone conjures up images of sleepy diners, abandoned homesteads, and of course, the wide-open road.\u00a0 And, for the most part, this stretch of Route 66 in California delivers on those daydreams.\u00a0 As perhaps the most recognizable attraction on Route 66, Elmer\u2019s Bottle Tree Ranch might cause a bit of d\u00e9j\u00e0 vu.\u00a0 That\u2019s because you\u2019ve seen it on T.V. and in films.\u00a0 And, if you watch <em>Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives<\/em>, then you must try the Truckers\u2019 Special at Emma Jean\u2019s Holland Burger Caf\u00e9 like we did.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"csColumnGap\" style=\"margin: 0px; padding: 0px; float: left; width: 4.17%;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: none;\" Food<\/h4>\n<p>It never entered my mind that I\u2019d ever write about the town of Barstow.\u00a0 It stands as your last chance to stock up on the essential four food groups of an L.A. to Vegas roadtrip:\u00a0 Beef jerky, nuts, gum, and soda pop.\u00a0 But, it also boasts of a few minor attractions if you know where to look.\u00a0 The Route 66 Mother Road Museum and the Desert Discovery Center both represent good options.\u00a0 Inside the latter, we spied the second largest meteorite in America:\u00a0 The Old Woman Meteorite.\u00a0 Or, if fast food culture interests you, you can dine at either the original Del Taco or inside a modified McDonald\u2019s railcar.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"csRow\">\n<div class=\"csColumn\" style=\"margin: 0px; padding: 0px; float: left; width: 43.8%;\" data-csstartpoint=\"0\" data-csendpoint=\"420.5\" data-cswidth=\"43.8%\" data-csid=\"21c71314-5198-f911-b402-b154d9e85749\">\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6296 Temps &amp; Even Higher Thermometers<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The town of Baker epitomizes small town America.\u00a0 And, in line with its small town status, it plays host to a rather silly attraction:\u00a0 The world\u2019s largest thermometer!\u00a0 I can\u2019t emphasize enough how much this thermometer meant to me as a child.\u00a0 It signified hope.\u00a0 When I saw this novelty-sized measuring device, I knew that this was the last stop before the state line.\u00a0 And, since we had been seeing the signs for The Mad Greek Restaurant and Alien Jerky every few miles or so, we decided to drop in and enjoy some air-conditioning.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; float: none; display: block; visibility: hidden; width: 0px; font-size: 0px; line-height: 0;\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"csRow\">\n<div class=\"csColumn\" style=\"margin: 0px; padding: 0px; float: left; width: 52.1%;\" data-csstartpoint=\"0\" data-csendpoint=\"500.5\" data-cswidth=\"52.1%\" data-csid=\"ea17a491-137c-e937-8fef-aa82a8d8c6fc\">\n<p><strong>Stateline:\u00a0 Gangsters, Rollercoasters, &amp; More!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>From a child\u2019s perspective, reaching Stateline means you\u2019ve arrived in Las Vegas.\u00a0 It has all the neon lights, clanking slot machines, and buffets that you\u2019d expect in Sin City.\u00a0 It even has one of the tallest and fastest roller coasters on Earth inside Buffalo Bill\u2019s Resort &amp; Casino.\u00a0 Another attraction that has been in place for years is the Bonnie &amp; Clyde Death Car inside Whiskey Pete\u2019s Hotel &amp; Casino.\u00a0 If you plan to visit Las Vegas on a shoestring budget, staying at these hotels can represent a significant savings.\u00a0 And, you can reach the exciting Las Vegas Strip in less than 40 minutes.\u00a0 This time, though, we just blew right through.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"csColumnGap\" style=\"margin: 0px; padding: 0px; float: left; width:
