Take your pups\u2019 personality and temperament into account before booking your round-the-world tour. If your dog is friendly to strangers, happy in new surroundings, and enjoys cruising in the car – there’s a good chance that they\u2019ll take to life on the road. Just to be on the safe side, consult your vet to make sure your pet is healthy enough to withstand the stress of travel, especially if flying is involved.<\/p>\n

Get packing<\/b><\/h4>\n

Packing for your pooch goes beyond the usual \u201cthis skirt or that one?\u201d crises. Bring along your dogs\u2019 favourite toys and a blanket from home for comfort and pack enough of their usual food to last the trip if you can, as different food may make for an upset tummy.<\/p>\n

Air travel can be stressful for animals, so try and minimise the impact by selecting the most straightforward route to your destination as possible – nonstop flights or flights with minimal \u00a0layovers are ideal. Before locking in an airline, check the reviews online from other pet-owners\u00a0 to get a good understanding of the experience your pooch is likely to have.<\/p>\n

Stay and play <\/b><\/h4>\n

Spacious Airbnb stays with garden access are popular among pet-owners, while a variety of budget to luxury pet-friendly hotels are great options too. Wherever you\u2019re staying, be sure to read the fine print before you book, says Carol of Fidose of Reality.<\/p>\n

\u201cAsk about pet policies and weight limits prior to booking a hotel room. Just because a travel book or website says it is so does not make it so; pet policies frequently change. Additionally, ask about pet fees and access to greenery for Fido\u2019s taking care of business.\u201d<\/i>

\nIf you\u2019re exploring your environment solo, be sure to acclimatise your dog before heading out. Create a safe space for your pup complete with a bed, a blanket and a bunch of familiar toys.
