Personal Experience with the Virtual Reality Tour of the Anne Frank House"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Well over a decade ago, I found myself in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.isango.com\/amsterdam\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Amsterdam<\/a> with my girlfriend as part of a romantic European vacation.\u00a0 And, because our hotel sat within the famous Jordaan neighborhood, we planned to do the Anne Frank House in the morning and take a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.isango.com\/amsterdam\/van-gogh-museum\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Van Gogh Museum<\/a> tour in the afternoon.\u00a0 That was, until we saw the endless line wrapping around the Anne Frank House and both started laughing.\u00a0 Needless to say, we skipped it.\u00a0 Little did I know that, more than ten years later, I would take a virtual reality tour of the house.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This past August, I once again found myself in Jordaan as part of a business trip.\u00a0 I really had no intention of visiting the Anne Frank house as I sat in a local caf\u00e9 enjoying a gorgeous cup of coffee.\u00a0 That\u2019s when a local rightly pegged me as a tourist and asked if I\u2019d like to take a Virtual Reality Tour of the Anne Frank House, right there at the table.\u00a0 I took him up on it and this is what I thought about it afterwards, in terms of pros and cons:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Pro:\u00a0 You Don\u2019t Have to Wait in Line<\/h4>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-12381\" src=\"https:\/\/www.isango.com\/theguidebook\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/My-Personal-Experience-with-the-Virtual-Reality-Tour-of-the-Anne-Frank-House-the-line.jpg\" alt=\"personal-experience-virtual reality tour-anne-frank-house\" width=\"800\" height=\"474\" srcset=\"https:\/\/assets-guidebook.isango.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/My-Personal-Experience-with-the-Virtual-Reality-Tour-of-the-Anne-Frank-House-the-line.jpg 800w, https:\/\/assets-guidebook.isango.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/My-Personal-Experience-with-the-Virtual-Reality-Tour-of-the-Anne-Frank-House-the-line-300x178.jpg 300w, https:\/\/assets-guidebook.isango.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/My-Personal-Experience-with-the-Virtual-Reality-Tour-of-the-Anne-Frank-House-the-line-768x455.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>One of the best things about the Virtual Reality Tour of the Anne Frank House is the lack of wait time.\u00a0 I can\u2019t stand waiting in a queue for tourist attractions, even if I really want to see them.\u00a0 For example, I once skipped a statue of <em>David<\/em> tour and slept-in instead, all because I didn\u2019t feel like staring at the fa\u00e7ade of Accademia for 3 hours.\u00a0 I did return years later and finally saw <em>David<\/em> in person.\u00a0 Anyway, ti\u00a0the case of my VR Anne Frank House tour, the wait time was zero.\u00a0 And, you truly can\u2019t beat that.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Pro:\u00a0 You Have the Anne Frank House to Yourself<\/h4>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-12382\" src=\"https:\/\/www.isango.com\/theguidebook\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/My-Personal-Experience-with-the-Virtual-Reality-Tour-of-the-Anne-Frank-House-statue.jpg\" alt=\"personal-experience-virtual reality tour-anne-frank-house\" width=\"800\" height=\"471\" srcset=\"https:\/\/assets-guidebook.isango.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/My-Personal-Experience-with-the-Virtual-Reality-Tour-of-the-Anne-Frank-House-statue.jpg 800w, https:\/\/assets-guidebook.isango.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/My-Personal-Experience-with-the-Virtual-Reality-Tour-of-the-Anne-Frank-House-statue-300x177.jpg 300w, https:\/\/assets-guidebook.isango.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/My-Personal-Experience-with-the-Virtual-Reality-Tour-of-the-Anne-Frank-House-statue-768x452.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Another perk that I noticed after taking the Virtual Reality Tour of the Anne Frank House came as a bit of a surprise, at first.\u00a0 Although it seems obvious in retrospect, you get to have the entire Anne Frank House to yourself during a VR tour!\u00a0 I could walk around the Secret Annex without bumping shoulders with fellow tourists or feeling rushed by the flow of foot traffic.\u00a0 It seemed as though the Frank family had left for a family outing and I had the run of the place.\u00a0 For me, that\u2019s ideal.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Pro:\u00a0 You Can Interact with Items inside the Secret Annex<\/h4>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-12383\" src=\"https:\/\/www.isango.com\/theguidebook\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/My-Personal-Experience-with-the-Virtual-Reality-Tour-of-the-Anne-Frank-House-household-items.jpg\" alt=\"personal-experience-virtual reality tour-anne-frank-house-household-items\" width=\"800\" height=\"478\" srcset=\"https:\/\/assets-guidebook.isango.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/My-Personal-Experience-with-the-Virtual-Reality-Tour-of-the-Anne-Frank-House-household-items.jpg 800w, https:\/\/assets-guidebook.isango.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/My-Personal-Experience-with-the-Virtual-Reality-Tour-of-the-Anne-Frank-House-household-items-300x179.jpg 300w, sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I was thrilled to find that I could pick up and inspect the personal effects of the Frank household once I stepped inside the Secret Annex.\u00a0 I took family photos off of the wall and drew it closer to my face for a closer look.\u00a0 Then, I picked up a pair of binoculars that were used to keep a lookout for Nazi soldiers.\u00a0 And, perhaps best of all, I discovered that I could actually pick up Anne Frank\u2019s diary.\u00a0 The interactions made the whole experience that much more realistic.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Pro:\u00a0 It Only Takes 25 Minutes<\/h4>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-12384\" src=\"https:\/\/www.isango.com\/theguidebook\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/My-Personal-Experience-with-the-Virtual-Reality-Tour-of-the-Anne-Frank-House-watch.jpg\" alt=\"personal-experience-virtual reality tour-anne-frank-house-watch\" width=\"799\" height=\"469\" srcset=\"https:\/\/assets-guidebook.isango.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/My-Personal-Experience-with-the-Virtual-Reality-Tour-of-the-Anne-Frank-House-watch.jpg 799w, https:\/\/assets-guidebook.isango.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/My-Personal-Experience-with-the-Virtual-Reality-Tour-of-the-Anne-Frank-House-watch-300x176.jpg 300w, 100vw, 799px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I have no idea how long the actual Anne Frank House tour lasts. \u00a0I mean, the Secret Annex doesn&#8217;t represent a super-comfortable, spacious living situation; so it can&#8217;t be that long.\u00a0 Additionally, from what I\u2019ve read, many individuals have become claustrophobic while exploring the home.\u00a0 For me, that doesn\u2019t sound like a good time.\u00a0 I found the 25-minute duration of the Anne Frank House virtual tour to be just about right if you want to get in and get out.\u00a0 Admittedly, the annex did seem small in virtual reality, as well.\u00a0 But, the warm breeze sweeping through the open-air caf\u00e9 kept me grounded in actual reality.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Con:\u00a0 You Can\u2019t Really Say You\u2019ve Been inside the Anne Frank House<\/h4>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-12386\" src=\"https:\/\/www.isango.com\/theguidebook\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/My-Personal-Experience-with-the-Virtual-Reality-Tour-of-the-Anne-Frank-House-front-door.jpg\" alt=\"personal-experience-virtual reality tour-anne-frank-house-front-door\" width=\"800\" height=\"475\" srcset=\"https:\/\/assets-guidebook.isango.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/My-Personal-Experience-with-the-Virtual-Reality-Tour-of-the-Anne-Frank-House-front-door.jpg 800w, https:\/\/assets-guidebook.isango.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/My-Personal-Experience-with-the-Virtual-Reality-Tour-of-the-Anne-Frank-House-front-door-300x178.jpg 300w, 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Other than the early, minor difficulties of getting oriented in the V.R. world, the only con related to the Anne Frank House Virtual Reality Tour is that it\u2019s not the real thing.\u00a0 You can\u2019t tell someone you\u2019ve been in the Secret Annex from <em>The Diary of Anne Frank<\/em>.\u00a0 I mean, technically, you <em>could<\/em> say you\u2019ve been in the Anne Frank House; but, I think that would come off as rather deceptive.\u00a0 In any case, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.isango.com\/theguidebook\/virtual-reality-experience-future-tourism\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">V.R. tour<\/a> didn\u2019t cost much, took very little time, and served as my introduction into V.R. technology, which I thoroughly
