If you already live in an exotic, tropical locale, it’s pretty easy to become complacent when it comes to travel.\u00a0 In my case, I see something novel, bizarre, or downright ridiculous every single day just by walking out onto the streets of Goa.\u00a0 So, the motivation to seek out a new adventure can evade me at times.\u00a0 And, since I have now identified the issue, I’ve come up with a list of New Year’s Resolutions for 2020, all pertaining to travel.\u00a0 Have a look:<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Try Bombay Duck<\/h4>\n

\"new<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Before arriving in Goa<\/a>, India, I had already heard about the popular Bombay Duck dish!\u00a0 Bizarre Foods<\/em> with Andrew Zimmer featured the delicacy as cooked by Mum\u2019s Kitchen in the capital of Panjim.\u00a0 What makes the dish special, or bizarre, is that you can eat the bones.\u00a0 Basically, a lizardfish is seasoned with Goan spices, breaded, and fried.\u00a0 The bones become soft enough to chew and swallow easily.\u00a0 And, here I am, just 30 minutes away from the place and I still haven\u2019t made the trip.\u00a0 I guess that’s why we make New Year’s resolutions.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Visit Nepal<\/h4>\n

\"new<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Nepal<\/a> has intrigued me since childhood.\u00a0 And, the natural beauty of the country and the strange customs of its people still call out to me today.\u00a0 I\u2019ve had a handful of opportunities to visit, but the logistics just never worked out.\u00a0 I often find Nepal entering my thoughts; and yet, I still haven\u2019t made the trip.\u00a0 In one sense, Nepal is close.\u00a0 The country borders on India.\u00a0 In another sense, it would still take some doing to make the trip.\u00a0 Perhaps 2020 will represent the year I finally go.\u00a0 Making it one of my New Year’s resolutions certainly won’t hurt.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Learn Konkani<\/h4>\n

\"new<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I find it a little embarrassing that I still haven\u2019t learned Goa\u2019s local language:\u00a0 Konkani.\u00a0 Sure, I know a few words.\u00a0 And, about half of them represent a sure way to start a fight.\u00a0 The urge to find a good tutor remains strong.\u00a0 But, truth be told, I am still waiting to encounter one.\u00a0 Also, just about everyone under 60 years of age speaks English here.\u00a0 So, the motivation to learn Konkani has dwindled over the years.\u00a0 Maybe New Years will give me the little nudge that I need.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Hit the Beach<\/h4>\n

\"new<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Goa enjoys significant worldwide fame for its beautiful beaches.\u00a0 And, I definitely have my favorite beach.\u00a0 I even have my favorite beach shack.\u00a0 But, over the last few years, I\u2019ve found it difficult to hit the sand more than 3 times per month.\u00a0 I think it\u2019s important that I take the family to the beach at least once a week.\u00a0 I mean, it\u2019s right there, my 1 year-old-daughter loves it, and my wife and I always return home more relaxed.\u00a0 The tourist season has started; so, let\u2019s see if I can stick to this New Year\u2019s Resolution.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Practice a New Sport<\/h4>\n

\"new<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

While many travelers believe a culture can best be understood through its food, I\u2019d like to think you can also learn a lot about a people through their pastimes.\u00a0 As you make your way around the globe, you\u2019ll discover no shortage of strange, yet vaguely familiar, sporting activities.\u00a0 Whether it\u2019s Jai Alai, log rolling, India\u2019s own kabaddi, or something else entirely, I\u2019ve got to find a way to try something new.\u00a0 And, to do that, I’ll probably need to plan a little vacation for this year.<\/p>\n
