See Arizona at its dramatic best. Marvel at the soaring red rock spires and massive sugar loaf mesas silhouetted against an azure blue sky. Inhale the resiny scent of the pinyon-juniper forest wafting on the breeze.
Walk enticing trails through deep canyons. And look out for desert wildlife. There’s more of it about than you might think.
You will almost certainly see ground squirrels and whiptail lizards. And if you are lucky you might spot a gray fox, roadrunner or, bobcat.
And look out for the hidden secrets of the rocks – carvings by the Sinagua Indians who once lived here, or a fossil fern leaf etched in stone.
There are two options for your Sedona adventure: Sedona Hiking Tour (2.5 hours), Sedona Hiking Tour (4 hours).
Sedona Hiking Tour (2.5 hours):
You should make your own way from Phoenix, Flagstaff or Sedona to the departure point, which is the office at 204 N. Highway 89A Sedona, AZ 86336.
You will travel by open-air jeep with fantastic 360° views into the desert.
Then you will get out and hike the exciting trails, accompanied by your knowledgeable guide.Whether you are an experienced hiker or a novice, your experienced guide will tailor your tour to match your ability and fitness.
Whichever route you take, you will see the massive red-orange rock pinnacles and square-cut mesas of this spectacular landscape. They soar into the sky above grassy meadows and sweet-scented pinyon-juniper woodland.
Before the age of the dinosaurs this high desert region was a coastal plain between two huge seas that rose and fell over time. The red rocks around Sedona were then vast coastal sand dunes.
Surprisingly this desert land is full of wildlife. Common Sedona animals such as ground squirrels, whiptail lizards, red harvester ants and northern cardinals are easily seen along the trails.
Other wildlife, including gray fox, roadrunner, bobcat and javelina (a small pig-like animal), live in the area but are more secretive.
Look closely at the rocks and you may see the embedded fossil of a now-extinct fern. Or your guide may point out petroglyphs.(images carved into rock) of animal figures. These are thought to have been made by the Sinagua Indians, who lived in the region around 1250 AD.
After your hike you will board the jeep to return to the start point at 204 N. Highway 89A Sedona, AZ 86336, where your tour ends.
