With engaging exhibits, stunning geology exhibits and 40,000 live animals, there’s something for everyone!
The tour does not visit all the public exhibits so you are encouraged to explore the Academy on your own before or afterwards.
Enjoy perennial favorites, like Foucault’s Pendulum, the Swamp exhibit, the T-Rex skeleton, and the 87-foot Blue Whale.
Enjoy the antics of a colony of African penguins via the PenguinCams!

Your enthralling Behind-the-Scenes Academy of Sciences Tour – San Francisco begins at the California Academy of Sciences, 55 Music Concourse Park, located in Golden Gate Park. You can exchange your booking voucher for your ticket at the Academy itself.
This tour gives you the chance to go behind the scenes with an expert guide to find out all about the prestigious Academy of Sciences from an insider's perspective. You’ll learn about the institution's 159-year history and how its scientists are tackling critical questions about life on Earth. You’ll visit the research collections and a working laboratory, get closer to the living roof and see breathtaking geology specimens in the vault.
The Behind-the-Scenes tour does not visit all of the public exhibits at the Academy so you are strongly advised to explore the venue before or after the tour. Among the highlights of the Academy are a plethora of lifeforms such as leafy sea dragons, anaconda, giant octopus, Amazonian piranhas, Borneo fruit bats, leaf-tailed geckos, tanagers and butterflies!
You can also watch the antics of the colony of 20 African penguins via the PenguinCams.
The Academy’s advanced technologies allow you to view the most accurate rendering of the Universe ever created, catch virtual butterflies with a digital net, see scientist webcasts from the field and learn about the wonders of the natural world through the digital.
Your tour ticket also includes VIP entrance to the Rainforests of the World Exhibit, reserved seats in the Planetarium and 10% discount in The Moss Room restaurant and Academy Gift Shops.
The tour ends at the Academy and afterwards you are free to make your own way back to your accommodation.

Parking in Golden Gate Park can be challenging, especially on weekends and holidays. Taking public transportation or getting dropped-off is highly encouraged
