Badgastein has been an important spa resort since medieval times or even earlier. In its 19th century heyday, the town attracted a glittering array of the great and famous such as Archduke Johann, Empress Elizabeth of Austria, Emperor Franz-Josef, Kaiser Wilhelm, Bismarck and many others.
Today the town retains much of its old-world charm. Come to enjoy the atmosphere and the stately architecture or try out the state-of-the-art baths – the massive Felsentherme Gastein and the nearby Thermalkurhaus.
With your private chauffeur-driven vehicle you don’t have to worry about navigating or finding a place to park. You can plan your day your own way and just enjoy sightseeing, exploring or shopping to your heart’s content.
For your Badgastein Private Tour from Salzburg you can be picked up from your hotel in Salzburg City Center, or alternatively you can meet your car at Mirabellplatz, whichever is most convenient. You will be chauffeured by a multi-lingual driver/guide speaking German & English. Depending on the size of your party you will travel in a luxury Mercedes E 220 (3 seats) or a mini-van (8-seats).
The distance from Salzburg to Badgastein is 76 km (47 miles) and takes you through some stunning rural scenery.
On arrival at Badgastein you will be struck by the delightful 19th century architecture, a legacy of the time when the town was one of the most important and fashionable spas in Europe. Kings, emperors, politicians, artists and writers - in fact ‘anyone who was anyone’ - came to Badgastein to enjoy the therapeutic benefits of its radon-infused waters.
Famous visitors included Empress Elisabeth of Austria, the German Emperor Wilhelm I, Otto von Bismarck, Tsar Ferdinand I of Bulgaria, King Faisal I of Iraq, King Ibn Saud of Saudi Arabia, Iran's last king Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, Heinrich Mann, and W. Somerset Maugham.
While you are in the town you could visit the up-to-the -minute spa and try out the therapeutic waters for yourself. A range of facilities are available including hot spring pools, open-air hot springs, and sports pools.
You could also check out the museums such as the Gasteiner museum and the Montan Museu.
You have the day to spend at leisure in Badgastein doing just as you like – entrance fees to the attractions you choose to visit are payable direct.
