Jewish Ghetto Guided Walking Tour:
Explore the alleys of the Ghetto on a guided walk and uncover traces of Imperial Rome such as the Theatre of Marcellus or Portico of Octavia. Recreate the history of the Jews in Rome, from ancient times to the present, and pay respects to the victims of the Holocaust, of which the "stumbling stones" (concrete cubes bearing a brass plate) fixed into the floor are a tangible testimony.
Learn authentic recipes of traditional Jewish-Roman cuisine, such as delicious artichokes “alla giudia”, or the tart with ricotta cheese and sour cherries. Though the ghetto no longer officially exists (it was abolished in 1882), the neighborhood is still the hub of Rome’s Jewish community, the oldest in Italy. The winding lanes lined with kosher restaurants, markets, and butchers make for a truly atmospheric journey steeped in history and culture.
