  • Overview & Itinerary

    Overview

Even in a country known worldwide for its beautiful scenery, the landscapes of Landmannalaugar are in a class all their own.

This raw and rugged land is ruled by sovereign mountain peaks, pummeled by waterfalls, and dotted with warm pools that provide a moment’s respite from an exacting climate.

Listen to the roar of the Hjálparfoss waterfall and snap a picture of the ever-present mountains, which have been tinted unusual shades by colorful volcanic furies.

Visit Iceland’s most fearsome volcano, which bides its time until the next eruption and take a dip in one of the area’s natural pools.

    Itinerary

You will be picked up by bus from your Reykjavik hotel and taken to the geothermal area of Landmannalaugar, often called “The Pearl of the Central Highlands.” You will be accompanied by an English-speaking guide that knows all the secrets of the region.

Journey through the beautiful countryside of southern Iceland, where landscapes of bare and brilliant beauty spread out before you.

Proceed into the highlands through Þjórsárdalur valley and visit Hjálparfoss waterfall, a thunderous cascade near the confluence of two mighty rivers.

All around you are Landmannalaugar’s eye-catching mountains, whose peaks are flush with the colors of volcanic activity.

Stop for a relaxing soak in a warm natural pool, which is created by the convergence of hot and cold springs. Look out across this chapped, desolate expanse while you unwind in the surreal, bath-like waters (the use of soap is forbidden in the pool).

Your bus forges onward toward the west and past Iceland’s most infamous and active volcano, Hekla, which was believed to be the Gateway of Hell during the Middle Ages.

The volcano last erupted in 2000, blanketing the landscape with thick layers of ash and pumice.

You will be returned to your Reykjavík hotel over the Hellisheiði Mountain Heath.

    • Fantastic Experience

Pick up from the hotel and organisation was faultless. The guide on the bus did not speak particularly clearly, so was a little difficult to hear, unlike the guide on a later...

    • Mountaineering made possible by coach.

The experience was without parallel in any coach trips we have made across Europe. It is different and is mountaineering from the reasonably comfortabe seat of a coach - bearing...

    • Stunning scenery - well worth the trip!

Landmannlaugar is one of the most beautiful places on earth to go hiking - the scenery is absolutely breathtaking. It was quite a long bumpy ride to get there but well worth it....
