This full-day tour covers all the renowned Golden Circle sights, while also a fun rafting adventure on the Hvítá river, down the Gullfoss Canyon.
Enjoy a great rafting adventure, jump off a cliff and take in jaw-dropping views of the Gullfoss waterfall as it cascades over a unique rock formation 32m into the Earth, visit the Geysir after which all geysers are named and watch it burst into the sky, and see the exposed valley formed by the separation of the American and European tectonic plates.
All the while, your expert guide will tell you the stories of how these rare and impressive features came to be and the significance of nature’s powerful forces on the history of Iceland.
Your tour starts when your expert tour guide arrives to pick you up from your hotel in Reykjavik between 8:00am and 8:30am.
From here, you will head towards the rafting base camp where your rafting adventure on the Hvítá river, down the Gullfoss Canyon begins. Battle the waters as you make your way through the tough rapids amidst the steep canyons. During the activity, you will pass the Brúarhlöð canyon where you may choose to jump off a cliff into the river. At the end of this adrenaline-pumping adventure, enjoy a hot shower and sauna before hitting the road.
The next spot on your journey is one of Iceland’s most popular attractions: Gullfoss waterfall. This photogenic and stunning work of nature barrels over a tiered rock formation as it falls into a crevice over 32m deep and seems to disappear into a hole in the Earth. By now you’ll have worked up a good appetite, so you’ll have the chance to try some hearty traditional Icelandic meat soup for lunch at Gullfoss Café just by the falls.
From here your day continues through the Golden Circle area to the geothermal region of Geysir. Watch superheated water burst from the ground at the famed Geysir or from one of the many nearby geysers, and take a look at some of the steaming hot pools in the surrounding area.
The last stop is a UNESCO world heritage site and an exquisite example of Iceland’s beauty: Þingvellir National Park, or Parliament Fields. This is home to the historically significant birthplace of the world’s oldest existing parliament, the largest natural lake in Iceland, and the exposed rift between two tectonic plates. You’ll be able to pinpoint the geological separation of the America and Europe from the park before you head back to Reykjavik, where you will be dropped off at your hotel at the end of the tour.
