Snæfellsnes has captured the imagination of people all over the world, ever since Jules Verne wrote “The Journey to the Centre of the Earth” in 1871. People living in the vicinity of the glacier claim it to be one of earth's few energy sources and visitors from all over congregate there for a few days every summer to accumulate the energy radiation and meditate. This tour is "must do" day full of pristine landscape in Iceland’s youngest national park.
You will be picked up from your hotel/ guesthouse at the scheduled time and taken on a guided bus tour of the Snæfellsnes National Park of Iceland.
Situated at the foot of a volcano and a glacier, the Snæfellsnes National Park is the first national park that was established in Iceland. This active volcano, which stands 1,446 m high, is the background for Jules Vernes' famous Journey to the Center of the Earth.
The tour covers the following sites:
The Snæfellsnes Glacier: (1446m) Snæfellsnes glacier is believed by many to be one of the earth's seven major mystical power spots. One of Iceland's most beautiful glaciers, 1,446 metres high, it sits on top of a dormant volcano at the tip of Snæfellsnes peninsula.
Arnarstapi Harbour: Continue along the coastline with its rugged terrain and onwards passing the Arnarstapi harbour, small and picturesque, with basalt columns. A stunning harbor girded by pristine waters and cliff-lines shores, Arnarstapi becomes a tourist magnet in summers.
Djúpalónssandur: Take a short walk along the beautiful beach at Djúpalónssandur. On the way you will pass Gatklettur, an interestingly-shaped cliff with a hole in it.
The tour will also break for lunch (payable direct).
On your way back to Reykjavík, you will pass through some quaint little fishing villages, including the Ólafsvík village, on the Snæfellsnes peninsula, close to the glacier Snæfellsjökull.
The tour returns to the starting point after approximately 10 hours.
Pick-up at hotels and guesthouses is 30 minutes before start time.
Drop off after day tours may sometimes not be right in front of your hotel / guesthouse due to narrow streets and actual coach size used during the tour.
Please call the activity operator at least 24 hours prior to start of the tour to reconfirm the departure details.
The confirmation voucher includes the local activity operator’s contact details and local telephone numbers at the destination. They will happily answer any logistical questions you may have.
the tour is a bit tight, did not have much time to enjoy in every scenery, but the landscape is worth to see once in a life!!...
I had a very good experience with Isango while doing a tour in Provence France and decided to book the 'Excursion to Snæfellsnes National Park' in Iceland with the same operator...
This was a down to earth tour with a relatively small group that gave us a very good idea of what the area was like and how the people live....
