Explore west Iceland on this 2-day tour where you’ll see waterfalls, hot springs, lava fields, white and black sand beaches, and a legendary glacier. Walk in the footsteps of Vikings as you visit historic villages, step inside an 8,000-year-old lava cave, and hunt for the elusive Northern Lights. Visit the Snæfellsnes Peninsula which is often referred to as ‘Iceland in Miniature’ because of its many and varied natural formations. Embark on an epic journey around western Iceland where you’ll trek the Hvalfjörður fjord, visit the geothermal area at Deildartunguhver hot spring, learn about Vikings and the Sagas, watch waterfalls cascade, and spot seals lounging on a white sand beach.

    Itinerary

Day 2- A Journey to the Centre of the Earth

After a hearty breakfast, journey to Snæfellsjökull National Park, the first established national park in Iceland. Behold the picturesque stratovolcano Snæfellsjökull which is also a glacier and is famous for being the entryway for the subterranean journey in Jules Verne's classic novel Journey to the Centre of the Earth! Along the way you’ll see the beautiful Djúpalónssandur black pebble beach, Kirkjufell mountain, and countless stunning sights. Fans of the Game of Thrones series might recognise this striking feature as the arrowhead mountain in the background when the Children of the Forest created the first White Walker. You’ll then reach your accommodation in Reykjavík in the evening, bringing your epic journey around West Iceland to a close.

Day 1 - Vikings on the West Coast

Kickstart your day by exploring the vast lava fields, cascading waterfalls, dark caves, white and black sand beaches, historical villages, and a mighty glacier. Head first to Mt. Esja and make your way to the “whale fjord” (Hvalfjörður fjord). As you drive past the mountains and fields, you’ll see the remnants of an abandoned naval base that was occupied by the British during WWII.

Drive through the wooded Skorradalur valley on your way to the historic Borgarfjörður, a region where over a thousand years ago Vikings sailors settled after leaving their homeland of Norway to conquer the open sea. Visit Deildartunguhver, Europe’s most powerful hot spring and two stunning waterfalls, Hraunfossar and Barnafoss. Spot seals at the unique beach of Ytri-Tunga which has white or golden sand rather than the usual black. Retire for the night in Snæfellsnes Peninsula.

Voucher Information : Sorry, but we will need you to print a paper version of your booking voucher (we're working on changing this). AT this time no refund can be given for customers without a printed copy of their voucher.

The confirmation voucher includes the local activity operator's contact details. They're a nice bunch, and will happily answer any logistical questions you may have. Please give them a call at least 24 hours before your organised activity to reconfirm. Minimum age required to undertake this tour is 8 years.

For activities like ice caving, jeans are not recommended because denim, once wet, will spread moisture and take a long time to dry, leaving the wearer extremely cold!

We suggest, wear hiking shoes, outerwear suited to chilly and rainy weather. Don't forget to being camera.

Due to increased demand for travel services in Iceland and low availability, travel companies in Iceland can not guarantee specific accommodations. However, we can always provide you with the best available accommodation at the time of your booking.

The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon, and therefore cannot be guaranteed, but this itinerary is designed to maximise your chances to see them if weather allows.

It can happen, in the case of extreme weather, that an activity is cancelled. If your chosen activity is cancelled, we will assist you with rearranging or booking other activities when possible, and any potential price difference will be refunded to you.

Icelandic roads and pavements can be slippery in the wintertime. We recommend you bring shoes with slip-resistant soles or ice-grip shoe covers. The covers can be purchased in most supermarkets and gas stations around the country.

For your convenience, it is recommended that you pack lightly for this tour. If you wish to repack to a smaller suitcase or backpack before your journey, a luggage storage will be available to you.

Below you can see our preferred partners for accommodation, Langaholt Guesthouse or Fosshótel Stykkishólmur. If not available, an alternative of the same standard will be arranged.
