Oberammergau has all of the provincialism of a much older Germany. Within the streets, you’ll see traditionally painted houses, much like Hansel and Gretel’s gingerbread house. This little provincial town is famous for its Passion Plays, as well as its wood carvers; just a few of the ways that Oberammergau continues to hold onto the past.
The tour operates on Sunday. If you are looking for some other day, we do offer an alternative Linderhof Castles and Oberammergau tour with Neuschwanstein.
The tour starts in front of “Karstadt” department store from where you will be picked up in an air-conditioned coach. You will be accompanied by your bilingual (English and German) guide.
The first part of the tour is a guided visit of Linderhof. You’ll spend 2 hours at this palace, where you’ll see the splendid beauty of King Ludwig II’s castle. Your tour will sweep through the grotto and Moorish pavilion, and given the circumstances you may very well dream about the life of the fairy-tale king.
Next on the agenda is a visit to Oberammergau. While visiting, be sure to take notice of the woodcarvings and richly painted houses. You’ll be given time to spend as you desire in Oberammergau for sightseeing and shopping. You may want to sample the delicious traditional sweets in one of the many cafés. Oberammergau has a wide array of woodcarver shops; if you’re in the mood for shopping, the hand carved ornaments make great souvenirs.
The tour ends at the starting point.
Please call the activity operator at least 24 hours prior to start of the tour for reconfirming departure details
Entrance fee to Linderhof (€8) is not included and is to be paid on the day of the tour
