Essaouria has always been a cradle for artists of all genres and poets, scientists have artists flock to it for centuries. Its main square is worth a visit as this is where all the main cafes, restaurants and patisseries are clustered.
The old harbour has fine examples of both Portuguese and Moroccan architecture, as does the 17th century Mosque and the local artists quarter. Enjoy picturesque views of the fishing port and the walled medina from the bastion of Skala du Port.
There is plenty of time at leisure for you to enjoy the charms of this resort.
0730h (7:30am): You will be picked up from your centrally located hotel in Marrakech for this tour.
The breakdown of your itinerary is as follows:
Stop for a coffee break followed by a visit to a Women’s Argan oil co-operative on the way.
1000h (10:00am): Arrive in Essaouira and set out for a complete guided visit.
Visit the Skala du Port , a fantastic fort that is famous for its rows of gigantic canons that face the Atlantic Ocean. Tour a municipal market, visit the District of Jewellers and discover exquisite Moroccan handicrafts in the medina. The medina of Essaouria is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
1020h (10:20am): Refreshment stop (payable direct).
Continue with your guided tour.
1300h (1:00am) – 1700h (5:00pm): Stop for lunch (payable direct). There are plenty of fine seafood restaurants in Essaouria. After lunch, the rest of the day is at leisure for you to enjoy the charms of this resort. You can explore the Main Square, which is just across the port. It is a lively hub of cafes, patisseries and restaurants.
1900h (7:00pm): Your tour ends with a drop-off at your hotel or the closest drop-off point in Marrakech.
