Overview

Ávila is one of the finest remnants of Europe's medieval era and a World Heritage site. It is the oldest and most complete walled city in Europe. The city walls are symbolical of the city. Ávila lies a short distance to the west of Madrid.

Ávila is a city of contrasts, the hustle and bustle of the mercado (market) contrasts with the quiet of the temples, churches and convents. The beautiful palaces and the impressive cathedral provide Ávila's character and identity, Avila also is renowned for being the home of St. Teresa of Avila.

Segovia, founded as a Roman pleasure resort, became a religious centre and seat of the Castilian court. Through the ages it has been a melting pot of Roman, Arabic, Jewish and Christian cultures. Its steep streets lined with quaint houses built of granite and many monuments remind one of its long and notable history.

The great aqueduct is the crowning glory of Segovia. 2,000 years on it is still in perfect working condition, bringing potable water to Segovia.

You will be picked up from designated meeting point. Accompanied by a multi-lingual guide, you will travel by deluxe air-conditioned to Ávila and Segovia.

Ávila:

The Cathedral de Ávila (outside only) – This incredible church is distinguished by its exquisite Romanesque and Spanish Gothic architectural styles.

"Los Cuatro Postes" – An ancient site for festivities and the place to enjoy a panoramic view of Avila.

St. Teresa’s Convent – A breathtaking complex and monument supposed to mark the birthplace of this famous saint.

The Basilica of San Vicente – Begun in the Romanesque and finished in the Spanish Gothic style it is a perfect example of this fusion of architectural styles.

After the tour of Ávila we then move on to Segovia.

Segovia:

On arrival in to Segovia some of the most important sights you get to see are:

The Aqueduct of Segovia - It is about 16 kilometres long and the symbol of Segovia. This amazing piece of Roman engineering was constructed without the use of mortar or clamps!

Among the city’s monuments is the Cathedral of Segovia built in the late gothic style. It is a delicate construction with some very fine stained glass windows.
