Experience the vibrant life of San Diego’s waterfront. Then enjoy an adventure on the high seas without leaving port when you board the famous USS Midway, a real life aircraft carrier turned into a museum. Find out what life was like for the sailors who served on this immense vessel.
Travel to Coronado Island to see the historic wooden hotel that featured in ‘Some Like It Hot’ with Marilyn Monroe. And get a picture of life in early California when you visit the ‘Old Town’, site of the first Spanish settlement in California.
This exciting day is full of color, interest and spectacular views. Make sure you take your camera along!
There are two departure points for your San Diego Sightseeing Tour from Los Angeles . Hotel pick-up is not included so you should make your way to either Starbucks Coffee Shop at Farmers Market Corner of Fairfax, Blvd and 3rd St, at 06:30 am, or to 4 Points Sheraton Culver City Hotel, 5990 Green Valley Circle, Culver City, where you will meet your guide in the lobby of the hotel at 07:00 am.
For your enjoyable day out, you will be transported in an air-conditioned vehicle and accompanied by a guide. (You should state on your booking form whether you require an English, Italian or Spanish- speaking guide.) At the start of the tour, you will depart south from Los Angeles and travel along the coast of Southern California.
You will stop at La Jolla cove, home to a new wave of young, rich and successful people and often referred to as ‘The New Beverly Hills’. You will spend about 90 minutes at this delightful resort. Explore the art galleries and upscale shops and admire stunning views of the rugged, curving coastline backed by steep canyons and hillsides.
The tour then continues south to San Diego, California’s second largest city. You will start your visit at the Seaport Village along San Diego’s waterfront, where there is always something to do. You’ll find 50 plus diverse shops and numerous eateries plus colorful outdoor entertainment. You’ll soon start to see why San Diego is considered such a delightful place to live.
Then board the legendary USS Midway, a genuine aircraft carrier that is now a museum. The lead ship of her class, USS Midway was the first to be commissioned after the end of World War II. She was active in the Vietnam War and in Operation Desert Storm.
As you step on board, you will enter a floating city at sea and walk in the footsteps of the 225,000 Midway sailors who served the US.
Every admission includes a self-guided audio tour to 25 restored aircraft and 60 exciting exhibits ranging from the powerful engine room to the captain's bridge. The self-guided audio tours are narrated by former Midway sailors and are available in English, Spanish and Japanese.
You will spend about 90 minutes on USS Midway and then have the chance to catch some lunch (payable direct) in Seaport Village. Afterwards, you will set off for Coronado Island, which is linked to downtown San Diego by the San Diego- Coronado Bay Bridge. The island is famous for its beautiful beaches, warm, sunny climate and the historic Hotel del Coronado.
Hotel del Coronado is a magnificent red-turreted wooden beach resort built in 1888. It has hosted presidents, royalty, and celebrities and featured in numerous movies. The resort was the principal setting for 'Some Like it Hot' with Marilyn Monroe and Jack Lemmon.
Your day out ends at the ‘Old Town’, where the first European village in what is now California was founded in 1769. You will see the original settlement and some interesting historic buildings. You will also have time to visit the ‘Bazaar Del Mundo’ a market that offers souvenirs from all over the world.
At the end of your tour you can be dropped off at either Starbucks Coffee Shop at Farmers Market or 4 Points Sheraton Culver City Hotel. At the start of the tour please advise your guide which of these you prefer. After you are dropped off, you will need to make your own arrangements to get back to your accommodation.

Smoking is not permitted on the motor coach

Stops are provided en route and the tour never travels by bus for more than 2 hours without a break.
The activity operator reserves the right to refuse carriage to passengers whose behavior makes it a hardship to the tour escort to conduct the tour or for the tour passengers general well being or enjoyment of the tour program.
This tour is suitable for people with limited mobility if they can get out of the wheelchair and sit in a regular seat and fold the chair to stow away
