Follow real cowboy trails and see the shadows lengthen and the red rocks glowing in the rose-gold light of evening. Stop at a well-chosen look-out point to see the sun go down over the rugged desert. Enjoy the open-space and tranquility – you’ll find it hard to believe that you’re only 30 minutes or so from Las Vegas.
Return to camp for a hearty cowboy steak BBQ (vegetarian alternatives if booked in advance). After dinner, sit around the campfire listening to tall tales and maybe even a song or two. This is a Las Vegas adventure you won't forget.
All the horses are supremely well-trained and this desert adventure will be thoroughly enjoyed by experienced riders and novices alike.
See the dramatic sight of the desert at dusk on the Sunset Horse Ride and Barbecue Tour.
You will drive to the ranch, located in the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, and will be introduced to your horse! Set off with your cowboy guide into the rugged desert with limestone cliffs looming a hundred feet above you.
As your sure-footed mount picks its way along historic cowboy trails you will see the red sandstone rocks glowing in the evening light and the huge cliffs casting shadows across the valley floor. Your guide will take you to a look-out point where you will enjoy spectacular views of sunset over the desert.
Your ride lasts around 1 ½ hours. As darkness falls, you will head back to camp for a barbecue dinner. Sit around the fire tucking into chicken or salmon steaks (veg burgers available if booked in advance), plus potatoes and beans. Children’s meals – either chicken or a hot dog – will also be available.
For dessert you will be served delicious ‘s’mores’. If you haven’t met these before, they consist of roasted marshmallow and a layer of chocolate sandwiched between two graham crackers. The name ‘s'more means ‘some more’, as in: ‘give me some more’!
After dinner, you'll sit around the campfire listening to stories and perhaps a song or two. The dinner and entertainment last around 1 ½ hours. At the end you will be dropped back in Las Vegas at the point from which you were picked up.
Please call the activity operator at least 24 hours prior to start of the tour for reconfirming departure details. Give the activity operator your cell phone number, hotel and room number so they can contact you if there are any problems at the time of pickup.
If you require a vegetarian option for the barbecue dinner please state this at the time of booking.
Children under six are not permitted to ride.
If you are not staying at any of the resorts nominated as pick-up locations (Golden Nugget, Circus Circus, Caesars Palace, or Excalibur) please make your way to the one that is closest to where you are staying.
Traffic problems could delay your pick-up vehicle. Please allow for as much as a 15-minute variance in pick-up time.
Guests who are more than 10 minutes late to the pick-up location will be considered ‘no shows’ and will be subject to 100% cancellation penalties.
Helmets are available for those who wish to wear them, though they are not required.
The confirmation voucher includes the local activity operator’s contact details and local telephone numbers at the destination. They will happily answer any logistical questions you may have.
