Sabah 6-Day Eco Trail, Kota Kinabalu

Embark on this incredibly popular 6 days 5 nights excursion through the country and maximize your chances of seeing plethora of wildlife!

Day 1:

Depart from Kota Kinabalu and finally arrive at Sandakan where you get to see the Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Center. There, you'll be treated to an enlightening video show about the conservation efforts done at the center. Enjoy a ten minute walk in the midst of the rain-forest and witness the feeding of orangutans at the feeding platform and observe them at the outdoor nursery. Thereafter, head to the Sun Bear Conservation Center next door after to learn more about the smallest bears in the world! Post lunch, embark on a 2 and a half hour journey by speedboat up the Kinabatangan River to Sukau Rainforest Lodge. Enjoy a river cruise in search of Borneo's wildlife and birds. Return to lodge to savour a candle light dinner on the pier, followed by slide presentation and interpretation by a naturalist guide.

Day 2

Rise and shine for the morning river cruise up the Kinabatangan River to Kelenanap oxbow lake to view more birds and wildlife. After breakfast, join in the nature walk along the lodge's Hornbill Boardwalk with the in-house naturalist. After lunch, it will be free at leisure. In the afternoon, proceed for another river cruise for more wildlife. Feel free to explore the boardwalk at the back of our lodge at your own leisure. Who knows you may get lucky and spot an Orangutan!

Day 3

Take an early morning river cruise along the Menanggol River by silent electric motor in search of wildlife, waking to the cacophony of the rain-forest before returning for a full breakfast. After lunch, make a 27 km overland journey to the Gomantong Cave. The cave is surrounded by primary rain-forest, rich in fruiting wild figs which make it an ideal place to spot orangutans in the wild. By sunset you will be overwhelmed by the exodus of over two million bats heading out for the night, swiftlets coming in to nest as well as raptors (eagles) swooping in and preying on the bats.

Day 4

Rise early and prepare for your trip to Danum Valley after breakfast. Then journey 2 hours overland to Lahad Datu to enjoy lunch upon arrival and check-in. In the afternoon, explore the beautiful nature trails and nearby river. Come evening, watch an educational slide show by your guide and if weather permits, go spotlighting for nocturnal animals in the night.

Day 5

Revel in a refreshing morning bird walk before breakfast. Spend the day exploring the forest for birds and mammals, leading up to an escarpment with ancient burial coffins. Trek to a waterfall for refreshing dip in rock pools. Thereafter, explore more trails leading to an amazing canopy walkway.

Day 6

Yet another fun morning trek in search of mammals and birds before return to the lodge to depart for Lahad Datu and then enjoying comfortable transfers to Kota Kinabalu.
