  • Overview & Itinerary

Kowloon is a bargain hunter’s paradise, with its bustling street markets selling everything from clothes and flowers to goldfish and jade. These markets offer great value with a unique Hong Kong ambience and a real slice of local life. Beyond the hills of Kowloon are the New Territories, a fairly undeveloped area as yet. Dotted with ancient villages, vegetable farms, heritage sites and fish ponds, the New Territories offer an interesting look into the Hong Kong beyond the glitz and glamour. Scenic coastlines and ranges of hills have been preserved within Hong Kong's network of 23 country parks, three marine parks and one marine reserve.

You will be picked up from your hotel in Hong Kong (if it is within the selected list of hotels), otherwise you have to assemble at the pick-up point by 8:30am for a tour of Kowloon and New Territories. You will travel in an air-conditioned coach, accompanied by an English-speaking guide.

The tour commences from Kowloon Peninsula and makes several interesting stops on the way to and from the border with China. Some of these include:

Wongtaisin Temple: This is the largest Taoist temple in Hong Kong and is visited annually by more than 3 million worshippers. No other temple presents visitors with such insight into Chinese religious beliefs and practices.

Old-style rural market: Visit this typical rural market that sells fresh produce, daily necessities and even electronic equipment.

Lok Ma Chau: This is a good vantage point to catch a glimpse of the remarkable skyline of China’s Shenzhen special economic zone.

Tsang Tai Uk: Located near the approach road to the Lion Rock Tunnel, this is an outstanding example of a fortified village. The name means “Tsang’s Big House”. Built in the 1840s, it is a large, rectangular grey-brick compound with high, thick walls and tall corner towers. Originally designed as the home for a rich quarry-master’s clan, the walled village gained its current name when it gave refuge to displaced families after the Second World War.

The tour ends at the starting point.
