Take this blissful journey through forests of pine and blue gum trees, passing tiny terraced fields along Levada do Norte. This wonderful walking path along the levada (irrigation canal) will lead you through serene landscapes of incredible beauty, secret gorges, and often surrounded by a riot of wild flowers due to the close running water.
The natural settings combined with the aromas of sugarcane plantations, blackberries, gum trees, chestnuts and dahlias make this walking tour of Madeira Island extremely refreshing.
You will be picked up in an air-conditioned coach from your hotel in Funchal or Canico. Accompanied by an English-speaking guide, travel on the road south of the island to Quinta Grande, a quinta is a small park with a manor house. Admire the colorful flowers and see the sugarcane plantations.
Enchanting all year round this tranquil levada walk will expose its hidden beauty of the unsuspecting walker. This levada walk takes place through an agricultural area, it is here where we can better understand the life of the maderian farmer. We also have panoramic views of the South-West coast being the villages of Quinta Grande and Campanário.
After exploring the sites of village, you will be dropped back to your hotel in Funchal or Canico.
