Day 1
Begin the guided tour by boarding the comfortable 16 seat Mercedes mini-coach from Edinburgh Bus Station on St Andrew Square. Leaving Edinburgh, you drive towards the Highlands and make a short stop in the wonderful vacation town of Callander for nibbles and munchies. Once back on the road, admire the soothing views of the Loch Lomond National Park as you drive past the mountainous regions before arriving in the busy harbour town of Oban. Take time to explore the fantastic Oban Distillery and sample some wonderful whiskeys and treat yourself to delicious local seafood.
Post lunch, depart Oban mid-afternoon for an exciting voyage through Kilmartin Glen and head to the port of Kennacraig where you board the ferry to the beautiful Islay. Sail over the serene waters for over two hours that fly by as you keep your eyes peeled for dolphins, whales and seabirds! Disembark at Islay and take a short drive to Bowmore where your comfortable base for your three-night stay awaits.
Day 2
Begin your day with a hearty breakfast before diving into a tour of Bowmore Distillery, one of the oldest in Scotland. Explore and taste some whisky before moving on to Ardnahoe Distillery, a modern family-owned project with a tour and lunch of local treats. Experience the countryside as you head to the third distillery, either Bruichladdich on Thursday and Saturday for innovative unpeated whisky or Bunnahabhain on Tuesday for unpeated and salty notes.
Wrap up the day in Bowmore, where you can choose to relax in your room or explore the village.
Day 3
Discover the southern side of the island today where a variety of earthy, smoky and peaty whiskies await! Dive into the home of the famous Laphroaig, Lagavulin, and Ardbeg whiskies.
Begin the tour with the first visit to Ardbeg for a tasting session followed by lunch. The restaurant at Ardberg is known for its fresh local produce and makes for a beautiful place to relax for the afternoonFollow up with a tasting of Laphroaig and make a short stop for a tasting at Lagavulin. Wrap up the day with a visit to the ruins of Kildalton Church and behold its famous Celtic cross dating back to the 8th century.
Day 4
This morning you head back from Islay to the mainland on a ferry. Continue to head around the coast to the beautiful and historically rich village of Inveraray. This charming town is located on the banks of Loch Fyne where the iron sailing ship Arctic Penguin is moored at the pier. Behold the Bell Tower that dominates the town and spend the day visiting more historic structures, old ships in the harbour and needless to say, great local whisky shop!
Post lunch at Inveraray, begin your return via Loch Lomond to Edinburgh where the stirring 4-day trip comes to a close.
