Overview

Depart from San José accompanied by a bilingual naturalist guide and prepare for a day full of surprises. Enjoy a scenic drive past coffee plantations as you head into the mountains of Braulio Carrillo National Park, where you will gaze at steep slopes covered with thick cloud forest and admire majestic waterfalls from the road.

En-route, savour a typical Costa Rican breakfast consisting of fruit juice, coffee, eggs and the traditional "Gallo Pinto" before continuing to a banana plantation where you will learn about the process of growing and exporting the tropical fruit.

Afterwards, leave the bus behind to set-off on the most exciting part of this tour: a boat trip in the heart of Tortuguero National Park. Find out how nature works and get a real feel of the tropical humid rainforest.

Tortuguero is one of the most important nesting sites of Chelonia Midas, the green sea turtle and its forests and waterways are home for other endangered mammals such as sloths, monkeys, agoutis, coatimundis and manatees. What's more, Tortuguero is home to over 400 species of birds, and is one of the best places to observe the native birds of Costa Rica.

Treat yourself with a hearty buffet lunch before strolling through the village of Tortuguero, a small community in middle of the tropical jungle. Here you will have the opportunity to learn about its interesting history and its inhabitants.

On the way back to San José, there will be a brief stop.
