Overview

This tour of Boston's inner and outer harbour is fully narrated and lasts 90 minutes. It offers you a fun and informative look at its many historic and contemporary landmarks. Watch and learn about the past, present and future of Boston's historic harbour. The experience covers tales of famous revolutionary battles, the nation's oldest continuously manned lighthouse and the islands of the outer harbour. See how the harbour evolved from a working industrial port to one of the cleanest in the country. Find out about examples of extravagant living and the high price of the waterfront. Listen to the local legends of the sea and much more: you'll be amused and enchanted!

Boston Light on Little Brewster Island is the oldest continuously manned lighthouse in the United States. It was originally built in 1716 and the first keeper was George Worthylake. He drowned along with his wife, daughter and two men while they were returning to the island in 1718. The building was destroyed and later rebuilt during the American Revolution.

The Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area, in the outer harbour, is formed by a collection of islands, together with a former island and a peninsula. They are administered by the Boston Harbor Islands Partnership and are open for public recreation. Some of the islands are very small and best suited for wildlife.
