The Ancient City, or Muang Boran, is dubbed as the world's largest outdoor museum. It features 109 scaled-down copies of Thailand's famous monuments and architectural attractions. The replicas were constructed with the assistance of experts from the National Museum to ensure historical accuracy. Outstanding works include the former Grand Palace of Ayutthaya (destroyed in the Burmese invasion of 1767), sculptures from the Thai epic story, the Ramakien, and a fabulous display of the Royal Barge procession.
You will be picked up from your hotel/directly from the airport and taken in either a coach or private air conditioned vehicle on a sightseeing tour outside Bangkok. You will be accompanied by a local, English-speaking guide.
You will see:
Samut Prakan Crocodile Farm and Zoo: This world-renowned farm was established by Utai Youngprapakorn in 1950 and is said to be the largest crocodile farm in the world. Suitably nicknamed the ‘Crocodile King’, Utai Youngprapakorn’s objective was to preserve this endangered species by breeding them in captivity. In addition to more than 60,000 crocodiles, the zoo also has elephants, monkeys and snakes and trained-animal shows, including crocodile wrestling. You may see daredevils taking on the ferocious crocodiles by putting their head right inside the reptile’s mouths. You can also shop for souvenirs at the farm’s gift shop which contains items made from crocodile hide that have been certified by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (Cities).
Ancient City or Muang Boran:The Ancient City, or Muang Boran, is dubbed as the world's largest outdoor museum. Situated close to the Crocodile Farm in Samut Prakan province, the Ancient City features 109 scaled-down copies of Thailand's famous monuments and architectural attractions. The grounds of the historic Ancient City correspond roughly to the shape of the Kingdom, with each of the monuments lying at their correct places geographically. The museum is massive and is the best way to see Thailand’s religious and royal sites within a day. See the former Grand Palace of Ayutthaya (destroyed in the Burmese invasion of 1767), Phimai Sanctuary in Nakhon Ratchasima, and Wat Khao Phra Viharn on the Cambodian border. Ancient City also has sculptures from the Thai epic story, the Ramakien, a display of the Royal Barge procession, and a model Thai village in which craftsmen produce ceramics, paper umbrellas and lacquer items.
