When to go to Marrakech

Marrakech is blessed with almost eternal sunshine. While some may find the height of summer too warm and you will require a coat during winter the year-long clear blue skies mean there is no bad time to visit the city.

Marrakech Temperature

If visiting the Atlas Mountains is on your Marrakech itinerary then winter and spring are a great time to visit. At this time the peaks are snow-capped and the region is at its picture perfect best. In addition a range of winter sports are offered high in the Mountains. You will also find the city centre more peaceful (and prices lower) than at the rest of the year.

As summer arrives the temperatures can rise to the high 30's degree Celsius. The city is at its busiest as travellers from across Europe travel south. While some may find the hustle and bustle of the city at this time overwhelming others will find the buzz and life of the city at this time, especially around the Djemaa el Fna, to be the Marrakech they imagined.

Marrakech offers a range of lively festivals throughout the year. The Friendship Festival in May celebrates multi-cultural Marrakech and the summer also sees an Arts, Jazz and Agricultural festival. Most of the festivals and events in Marrakech centre around the Muslim calendar. During Ramadan (dates of which vary year-by-year) many of the locals will fast during the hours of daylight. While it is accepted that tourists will eat during this time if you can wait to sunset you will find the restaurants and cafes to be very lively and welcoming as the locals come out to eat.
