Itinerary

Meet your guide for the Salzburg City Tour from Vienna at the designated meeting point. The journey to Salzburg takes approximately 3 hours.

After leaving Vienna you will drive through the scenic Salzkammergut with its breath-taking landscape of mountains and lakes. The name ‘Salzkammergut’ means ‘Estate of the Salt Chamber’ and comes from the precious salt deposits that have driven the region’s economy since prehistoric times.

Skirting Lake Fuschl and Lake Wolfgang, you will reach Salzburg in time for lunch (payable direct).

Salzburg is famous for many reasons. It was the birthplace of the 18th century composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart; its ‘Old Town’ boasts magnificent baroque architecture; it is renowned as a university city; and in the mid-20th century it was the setting for scenes from the film ‘The Sound of Music’.

After lunch you will stroll with your guide through this beautiful city. This is a walk-past tour and you will not actually enter any of the attractions.

You will see the 17th century baroque Cathedral, where Mozart was baptized, and St Peter’s Abbey Church, known for its lavish Baroque decoration. The guide will show you the tomb of Mozart’s sister Maria Anna, known as ‘Nannerl’, in the graveyard of St Peter’s.

You will see the two Festival Halls, the venues for the world-famous Salzburg Festival, and your guide will take you to No. 9 Getreidegasse, where Mozart was born and lived until he was 17 years old.

Marvel at the glorious Mirabell Palace built by a Prince Archbishop for his mistress. View its glorious gardens and look upwards to see stupendous views of the 900-year-old Hohensalzburg Fortress towering above the city.

At the end of the tour, you will be dropped off at your hotel in Vienna.
