Union Square: The centerpiece of San Francisco’s cosmopolitan downtown area, Union Square is heaven for shoppers, with an impressive collection of department stores, up-scale boutiques, local trinket shops, and salons.
Twin Peaks:These two distinct, uninhabited hills, which once captured the imagination of early Spanish explorers, offer peerless views of San Francisco’s vast splendor.
Golden Gate Bridge: Vista Point affords a wide-angle view of this immortal bridge, one of architecture’s greatest triumphs and an international emblem for the promise of the American frontier.
Civic Center: Two expansive, tree-thronged plazas contain many of the city’s government and cultural institutions, including the California Supreme Court, the Davies Symphony Hall, and the grand classical statement of City Hall.
Mission Dolores: Mission San Francisco de Asis, or Mission Dolores, is the oldest standing structure in San Francisco, founded in 1776 by Spanish explorers charged with creating a settlement in the brave new world of California. The humble adobe chapel has a ceiling modeled after the basket weavings of the Costonoans, the original inhabitants of the area, and was supplemented in 1918 by a grand basilica.
The tour ends at Pier 43 ½.
