Overview

This epic 5 day adventure focuses on the cultural heritage of the Native American cultures – plus there’s plenty of fantastic sightseeing thrown in.

Visit a remarkably preserved Native American cliff dwelling in Sedona’s Red Rocks area, where sheer, russet-colored rock formations gesture towards a pure blue sky.

Learn about the mythology and daily life of the area’s early tribes on a Jeep tour and take part in an authentic saging ceremony, which once conferred honor on a tribe’s elder members.

Take in the incomparable Grand Canyon and ascend the stairs of an eminent stone tower that honors the disappeared architecture of the Anasazis.

Take another Jeep tour past the lofty sandstone pinnacles of Monument Valley and visit a traditional Navajo dwelling.

Itinerary

Day 1:

You will be picked up by air-conditioned coach (vans will be used for smaller groups) from your Phoenix/Scottsdale hotel and conveyed to the red rock country of Sedona. You will be accompanied by an English-speaking guide that knows the area inside and out.

Arrive in the Red Rocks area of Sedona, a striking sanctuary of rust-colored rock formations, cool waters, and trilling birds. Climb on board a Jeep and be swept away on an “Awakening the Spirit” tour.

Here you will learn about American Indian spirituality and the history of the first humans drawn to the area. Hear the creation story of the early tribes who once walked this harsh and beautiful land. The experience concludes with a saging ceremony to cleanse body and spirit.

You will overnight at Kings Ransom Hotel or equivalent.

Day 2:

You will be picked up from your hotel in the morning and taken to Grand Canyon National Park, whose unforgettable stone sculptures have sheltered many Native American cultures down through the centuries.

Visit the famed Desert View Watchtower, a venerable stone tower built in tribute to the ancient structures of the Anasazi civilization that have long since vanished from the earth.

Drive to Flagstaff, with a stop on the way at the historic Cameron Trading Post on the Navajo Indian Reservation. There, you’ll be able to browse a wide selection of distinctive Southwestern and Native American arts and handicrafts.

Overnight in Sedona at Kings Ransom Hotel or equivalent.

Day 3:

You will get a morning pick-up from your hotel and drive to Monument Valley Tribal Park for a scenic off-road Jeep trip into the historical heart of the area.

The towering buttes and jagged pinnacles of Monument Valley Tribal Park are truly captivating. This “Valley of the Rocks,” as the Navajo Indians have known it for generations, is alive with vivid reds that alternate with darker blue-gray rocks and small outcroppings of green desert scrub.

Your Native American guide will take you to an authentic Hogan, the traditional dwelling of the Navajo people.

Overnight accommodations at Kings Ransom or equivalent.

Day 4:

Travel through Flagstaff and Winslow, AZ to the Homolovi Ruins - these ancient dwelling were once the homes of Hopi ancestors. Next, enjoy an authentic Hopi meal with your guide at the Hopi Cultural Center. Have the opportunity to visit the Hopi Museum and Art Gallery with time to shop and view the amazing pieces found here.

The afternoon will be spent visiting the Village of Walpi on First Mesa, the most pristine of all of the Hopi Villages. You'll do a walking tour with another Hopi Indian Guide, who will share with you the traditions of the Hopi People. Meet with the Hopis in their homes and share their culture and history with them first hand.

Visit with the artisans such as basket makers, pottery makers and kachina carvers. This is a true cultural and spiritual experience. Overnight Kings Ransom or equivalent.
