The wonders of Sedona and the Grand Canyon are unveiled by coach and rail in this marvelous sightseeing tour.
Some think the Sedona region is just as beautiful—if not more so—than the Grand Canyon. Behold the incredible landscapes and desert architecture of Red Rocks and Sedona’s artistic town center, which is a popular refuge for painters, writers and filmmakers.
Ride the rails of a historic locomotive into the vast and varied reaches of the Grand Canyon. Pass through stunningly diverse landscapes of thirsty stone and lush forest on your way to one of the seven natural wonders of the world.
Enjoy plenty of free time to explore the Grand Canyon, a surreal sculpture garden of stone that recedes into infinity in all directions.
You will be picked up by air-conditioned coach from your Phoenix / Scottsdale hotel and set out across the Sonoran Desert en route to Sedona. You will be accompanied by an English speaking guide that knows the area inside and out.
Covering more than 100,000 square miles in Arizona, California, and Mexico, the Sonoran Desert is the most biologically diverse desert in North America. Among the 2000 plant species native to the region is the bristling saguaro cactus, whose delicate white blossoms are the Arizona state flower.
Pass through the Red Rock country of Sedona, where rust-colored rock formations and clear streams inhabit the same harshly beautiful landscape.
Downtown Sedona is known for its numerous shops and art galleries, which are as colorful as the countryside. Spend a free afternoon browsing or take an optional backcountry Jeep tour at a cost of $60.
Overnight accommodation at Kings Ransom Hotel or equivalent.
You will be picked up from your hotel in the morning and depart for Williams, home of the historic Grand Canyon railroad.
Arrive in Williams and board the Grand Canyon Railroad. Each car of this Arizona railroad - which made its maiden voyage in 1901 - has been lovingly restored to its original state, and the crew members all have anecdotes to share about the train and its many journeys.
Travel through open plains with mountain views and past crystal lakes embroidered with pine forest before arriving at the Grand Canyon Village at the south rim of the park at approximately noon.
Disembark from the train and enjoy free time to explore this rocky wonderland, one of seven natural wonders of the world.
This sculpture garden of stone gives off brown, yellow, and red hues that are amplified by a striking blue sky and wayward tufts of clouds. The landscape is otherworldly, like the surface of some distant planet waiting to be discovered.
You’ll have ample time to enjoy lunch (payable direct), snap memorable photographs from staggering vistas, or take a leisurely walk around the rim.
You’ll be returned by train and coach to your hotel in Phoenix / Scottsdale at tour’s end.
