Your package includes the acclaimed Taste of Philly Food Tour at Reading Terminal Market (5 North 12th Street (at Filbert Street), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19107).
These tours are available only on Wednesdays and Saturdays and must be booked in advance. You should arrange to arrive at the venue before 1000h (10:00am) and can redeem your voucher at the Information Desk at the Market, which is the tour starting point.
Led by a knowledgeable (English-speaking) food writer guide you'll tour the vibrant Reading Terminal Market where 115 years of history come alive with the sights, smells, tastes and sounds of more than 80 merchants selling a variety of locally fresh foods and hand-crafted items. On your 75-minute guided tour, you'll learn the story behind cheesesteaks, hoagies, pretzels and other Philly food favorites.
The other part of your package takes you to the City Tavern Restaurant, 138 South 2nd Street (at Walnut Street), for a historical gourmet experience. The City Tavern Restaurant was established in 1773 and played a part in the momentous events surrounding the American Declaration of Independence.
When you arrive, be ready to be transported back to the 18th century. In its time, a Tavern on this site has served the likes of George Washington, John Adams and Benjamin Franklin.
Even today, you'll enjoy 18th Century American Cuisine served by colonial costumed wait staff in an authentic historic environment.
You can sip ale from hand-blown glasses and dine on dishes such as Martha Washington’s Pot Pie and Ben Franklin’s chicken. You can also sample George’ Washington’s favourite Sweet Potato Biscuits.
Your package gives you a complimentary copy of the ‘City Tavern Baking & Dessert Cookbook’ and a complimentary dessert with the purchase of a lunch or dinner entrée at this restaurant.
Lunch is served daily from 1130am. Dinner is served Monday through Saturday from 04:00pm, and Sunday from 03:00pm. Prior reservation is recommended.
Your tour ends at your convenience and you need to make your own arrangements to get back to your accommodation.
