Your memorable Central Park Bike Tour adventure begins when you make your way to 56 West 56th Street. On this 2 hour tour, you will explore Central Park, a beautiful national landmark in the heart of New York City. During the tour, our experienced and knowledgeable tour guides will share interesting facts about the history and design of the famous park. In addition, they will reveal little known information about historical attractions, celebrity homes, movie scene locations and more.
You’ll see Strawberry Fields and the Imagine Mosaic, those marvelous tributes to the memory of John Lennon. Another famous memorial is the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir, with its cherry trees and rhododendrons, as well as several species of birds.
You’ll gaze upon the Bethesda Terrace, the heart of Central Park with its iconic Angel of the Waters fountain. Nearby is the Cherry Hill Fountain, which was originally designed as a watering trough for horses during the 19th century.
Another marvel is Belvedere Castle, designed by Olmsted and Vaux in the late 1800s. This architectural hybrid of Gothic and Romanesque styles is built on the second highest natural elevation point in Central Park and affords you sweeping views of the Park.
You’ll be able to smell the flowers in the Shakespeare Garden, with its 4 acres of plants that change according to season. You’ll find rosemary and pansies, mentioned in ‘Hamlet’, and even a white mulberry tree that is said to have grown from a graft of a tree planted by Shakespeare himself in 1602.
Another literary connection is the ‘Alice in Wonderland’ statue, 11 feet tall in bronze. Alice is surrounded by the Mad Hatter, the White Rabbit and a few of her other friends. This sculpture allows children to climb and crawl over Alice and her friends!
You’ll have the chance to indulge in a little souvenir shopping at the Tavern on the Green gift shop. The Tavern was a much-loved restaurant until 2009 and is now a public visitor’s center and gift shop. It serves as the finish line for the New York City Marathon and has featured in several movies, including ‘Edward Scissorhands’ and ‘Wall Street’.
Upon completion of the tour, you will return to 56 West 56th Street and be free to make your way back to your accommodation.
