Marvel at mighty Niagara, cruise the great St Lawrence River, visit Toronto and Washington DC and shop your heart out. These are just some of the many delights on this fabulous five-day tour from New York.
Travel through forested mountains to Niagara Falls. Admire the foaming torrent by day and when spectacularly lit up at night.
Next day, go by boat through clouds of spray for a close look at the Falls. Then, set off to explore Toronto, the largest city in the world’s biggest country.
On the third day, move on to the vast waterway of the St Lawrence. Cruise the water wonderland of the 1000 Islands and glimpse the mansions of the great and famous.
Shop till you drop at one of the great outlet malls on the way south. When you reach Washington DC, spend two days touring the highlights of the world’s most influential city.
Itinerary
Day 1: New York - Finger Lakes - Niagara Falls
Your exciting five-day excursion from New York crosses the Canadian border to Niagara Falls and the St Lawrence River, before heading south to Washington DC and back up to the Big Apple. At the start of your trip, you will be picked up from 125 Park Ave (between 41st & 42nd street) at New York Airport Service in a deluxe air-conditioned vehicle.
With your bilingual guide, you will drive north through the beautiful Delaware Gap to Watkins Glen State Park in the Finger Lakes region.
You will stop for lunch (payable direct) at lovely Watkins Glen and can take a stroll through the gorge to the famous waterfalls. Afterwards, continue your journey passing Seneca Lake on the way. You will arrive at Niagara Falls in the late afternoon.
Tour the American side of the Falls including the American Falls, Goat Island, and Three Sisters Islands. In the evening, enjoy the spectacle of the Falls illuminated in glowing colors.
You will stay overnight at the Executive Inn Super 8, 0.6 miles (1 km) from Niagara Falls. It is a two-star hotel with a restaurant, two swimming pools and a fitness center. The comfortable rooms have all modern amenities including cable television and internet access. It provides complimentary continental breakfast.
Day 2: Niagara Falls - Toronto - 1000 Islands
After breakfast, you will visit Horseshoe Falls (largest of the three Falls) for a close-up look.
In summer (01 May to 31 Oct) you will board the 'Maid of the Mist' for a 45-minute boat tour through the mist and spray to the base of the Falls.
In spring (01 Apr to 30 Apr), you will take the Scenic Tunnels tour (approx. 1 hour) and see the Falls from behind.
In summer, you will depart around noon to the picturesque village of Niagara on The Lake before going on to Toronto.
In spring, you will omit this part of the tour and go straight to Toronto.
After arriving in Toronto, you will see the stunning modern architecture of City Hall, the fine Parliament building, and Eaton Center shopping complex .
In summer, you will leave Toronto and travel east along Lake Ontario for an evening arrival at the 1000 Islands area. You stay overnight at Gananoque – Clarion Inn, a three-star hotel with restaurant, indoor pool, sauna, and fitness center. The hotel is located in the beautiful Bay of Quinte tourist region and the comfortable rooms have all modern amenities.
In winter, you will return to Niagara Falls from Toronto, and stay a second night at Executive Inn Super 8 .
Day 3: 1000 Islands - New York
In summer (01 May to 31 Oct), you will start the day with a 1.5 hour cruise through the 1000 Islands along the St Lawrence River. As you sail through this garden of woods and water, look out for the houses of the rich and famous perched on private islands.
In spring (01 Apr to 30 Apr), instead of the cruise, you will spend time (approx. 40 minutes) visiting the magnificent Welland Canal Locks. Part of the great St. Lawrence Seaway, the Welland Canal moves huge ships up and down the Niagara escarpment. You will then visit the picturesque village of Niagara on the Lake, where you will have lunch (payable direct).
In the afternoon (spring and summer schedules), you will head to New York State. On the way, you can enjoy a shopping excursion at a large outlet mall, where there are amazing bargains on brand name goods.
In the evening, you will arrive in New Jersey and will stay overnight at La Quinta Inn and Suites.
Day 4: New Jersey - Washington DC
You will depart New Jersey and drive south, crossing the states of Delaware and Maryland for a mid-morning arrival at Capitol Hill.
You will see the buildings at the heart of the US government – the The Capitol, home to the US Congress, and The White House, official residence and principal workplace of the President of the United States.
You will continue to the renowned National Air and Space Museum, which has the largest collection of aircraft and spacecraft in the world, before going on to the National Mall.
Here, you will see iconic monuments honoring two Presidents – the neo-classical Lincoln Memorial, built in memory of President Abraham Lincoln, and the Washington Monument, a towering obelisk commemorating the first US president, George Washington.
You will also see two important and moving war memorials, the Korea Memorial, in memory of those who fell in the 1950-1953 Korean War, and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, honoring members of the armed services lost in the Vietnam War.
You will stay overnight at the Howard Johnson Cheverly Hotel.
Day 5: Washington DC- New York
Start the day with a visit to Arlington National Cemetery, where nearly 300,000 veterans and military casualties are buried. At the Cemetery you will also see the elaborate Changing of The Guard Ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknowns.
You will also have the chance to view the Kennedy Family Gravesite, the final resting place of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy, his widow, Jacqueline (Jackie) Lee Bouvier Kennedy Onassis, and two of his young children. Robert F. Kennedy's grave is nearby.
Next, you can visit the US Mint and discover how the US government keeps the dollar safe from counterfeiters.
We then head north to Lancaster county home of the Amish people. We start our visit with a ride on an authentic Amish Buggy through the Amish farm country and learn how they live without the benefit of modern technology, no electricity, running water, telephone service, or appliances.After the ride we visit the Amish marketplace where we can shop for handmade arts crafts and products. In the late afternoon we depart east for an evening arrival in New York.
At the end of your amazing tour of ‘The American Triangle’, you will be dropped back at the starting point at New York Airport Service.
