Itinerary

The tour departs from the Gray Line “Lighthouse” Ticket Office located at Toulouse Street and the Mississippi River (at the Steamboat Natchez Dock), only 1 block from Jackson Square in the French Quarter. Make your own arrangements to reach this place.

From here you will board an air-conditioned coach and take a sightseeing city tour of New Orleans in the southern state of Louisiana. Your city tour will be followed by a river cruise.

Your narrated coach tour includes a visit to:

  • The French Quarter: A National Historic District, it was first settled by the French in the early 1700’s

  • Jackson Square: It reflects a blend of Spanish and French colonial architecture, and has fascinating museums like the Cabildo and Presbytere

  • Cemetery: Visit one of the historic cemeteries of the city, which are often referred to as ‘Cities of the Dead’, and learn about the unique above ground burial system

  • Bayou St. John: This was a waterway used by Jean Lafitte and his band of pirates

  • Lake Pontchartrain: See the longest bridge over water in the world, the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway

  • St. Charles Avenue Streetcar: The oldest continuously operating passenger railway system in the world

  • Garden District: See the homes of former kings and queens of the Mardi Gras and stately mansions surrounded by lush lawns

View Tulane and Loyola Universities across from Audubon Park, home to one of the top five zoos in the nation, The Audubon Zoo.

After your New Orleans city tour, board the historic Steamboat Natchez, one of the six authentic steamboats left on the Mississippi River, for an exciting river cruise. This two-hour day cruise takes you back to a time when cotton was king and life was as slow and graceful as the current on the Mississippi River. The Captain will point out the highlights of New Orleans on this cruise in one of the world's busiest ports. Enjoy a Steam Calliope Concert (a musical instrument that produces sound by sending steam through whistles), and tap your feet to live jazz (seasonal).

Take a tour of the historic Steam Engine Room and learn how steam powers the engines to turn the paddlewheel and provide the energy for the delightful tunes of the calliope. Cruise past the Chalmette Battlefield, where Jean Lafitte and his buccaneers joined forces with Andrew Jackson to defeat the British in the Battle of New Orleans.

Refreshments and souvenirs are available on boat (payable direct).

The tour ends at the starting point.
