This fascinating tour reveals the historical and architectural features which tell the story of Chicago, home to America’s first and tallest skyscrapers.
Find out how the great fire of 1871, which destroyed the commercial district, gave designers and entrepreneurs the opportunity to grow their city upwards to make the most of limited space.
As well as the soaring skyscrapers, you’ll discover other Chicago treasures like the Lakeshore, the Conservatory, the glorious green parks and boulevards, the university campuses, and the incomparable genius of Frank Lloyd Wright.
This exclusive small-group private tour allows greater personal interaction with your guide.
For your Luxury Private Chicago City Tour you will be picked up from the front of your Chicago hotel. An expert local guide will accompany you on this exciting tour of the “The Windy City”.
Highlights of the excursion include the following:
Lakeshore: Admire the waterfronts and delightful parks as well as some of the most important museums. There will be a photo-stop at the Planetarium.
Lincoln Park: Continuing north on Lakeshore Drive, you will be able to see the first residences of Chicago's turn-of-the-century millionaires located on the "Gold Coast". After passing the lagoon and the zoo, the tour heads back into the heart of the city.
Downtown: At Michigan Avenue, one of the main streets in the city, you will learn about the events that formed the city of Chicago. Hear about early conflicts between European settlers and Native Americans, the fire of 1871, and the river legends. Learn about the post- depression-era contributors to urban development, such as Frank Lloyd Wright and Mies Van De Rohe.
The Loop: See the historic financial center where your guide will point out the 100 year-old buildings and monuments. If your tour is on a weekday you will cover the following: Chicago Conservatory, Sears Tower, Chicago Stock Exchange, Rookery Building, Thomson Center, and the Federal Reserve Bank.
Water Tower: See the historic Water Tower, one of the few structures to survive the great fire of 1871. The Tower is close to the downtown shopping area and you will have free time to wander at leisure before re-boarding your vehicle for the return journey.
At the end of the tour, you will be dropped back at your hotel.
