Overview

Take the magical ‘Road to The Isles’, celebrated in folklore and song, on this delightful away day from Glasgow.

Drive through a mountain landscape sculpted by glaciers and dotted with historic sites and monuments, such as the brooding Campbell stronghold of Kilchurn Castle.

By lunch-time you will be in the attractive seaside town of Oban with its neat Victorian villas. Admire views of the misty blue mountains of the Inner Hebrides and take the chance to grab a tasty seafood lunch.

Return to Glasgow via the seat of the Campbell Clan at Inveraray and see lovely Loch Fyne shimmer in the soft West Highland light. By the time you get back you will have fallen head over heels in love with this beautiful part of Scotland and your head will be full of memories of Oban and the islands beyond.

Itinerary

Glorious views of lochs, mountains and the coast await you on the West Highland Experience tour. To join the excursion, you should arrive at designated meeting point, where you will meet your driver/guide and board your mini-bus.

Leaving Glasgow, you will dive straight into the countryside. You’ll head north to Loch Lomond (the largest expanse of fresh water in the country) and stop off at the conservation village of Luss for coffee and sightseeing (refreshments are payable direct).

You then head deep into the Highlands, passing through breathtaking scenery (including views along Loch Awe, the longest in Scotland). The countryside here is rich with history. We pass haunting Kilchurn Castle (historically a stronghold of the Campbell Clan) and the Pass of Brander (where Robert the Bruce had a notable victory).

By lunchtime, you'll have reached Oban and will have time to explore this Victorian seaside town, climb up to McCaig's Tower, take in the views to the isles of Mull and Kerrera and try some of the freshest seafood you'll ever have tasted.

On the way back to Edinburgh, you'll visit the seat of the Campbell Clan at Inveraray, where we'll stop so that you can enjoy ice-cream, homemade sweets, cakes and coffee and drink in the beauty of Loch Fyne.

At the end of the tour you will be dropped back at the starting point.
