Mumbai is the commercial capital of India and home to many iconic landmarks: the Gateway of India, built in 1942 to commemorate the visit of King George V to India, Marine Drive also called the ‘Queen’s Necklace’ and the Stock Exchange among others. It is a city that pulsates with life, a city that never sleeps and where skyscrapers stand alongside slums. A major attraction near the city are the rock-cut temples on Elephanta Island. Hewn out of solid rock, the sculptures are said to have been carved between 450-470 AD. There is one main cave with many carvings of the Hindu God Shiva, apart from other caves.
