This tour is your chance to explore the historical city of Derry, popularly known as the Maiden City, on the banks of the scenic Foyle estuary. Among the many historic sites of Derry, the massive City Walls on the west bank of River Foyle are the most striking! Erected in the 17th century, the original walls are very well preserved, making Derry one of the finest examples of a walled city in Europe. Take a tour of St. Columb’s Cathedral, the first in the British Isles to have been built after the Reformation and a fine example of Planters’ Gothic. Built by the Irish Society in the 17th century, the cathedral is home to many interesting historical relics including the locks and keys to the four original city gates. Pan through the Tower Museum for its impressive collection of artefacts recovered in Kinnagoe Bay, County Donegal, from a galleon shipwrecked in 1588.
